Since monks use hand to hand weapons and no other class is good at that except them,is it still possible to go with an Adv. job after level thirty,or do you have to keep monk your main job all through out the game to be effic

mnks really not a vary good sub... especially for high levels...
as you said they concentrate on H2H...
mnk is always a sub-parred sub to warrior, unless your main is warrior

yes, you can use any job you want any time you want. you will need to skill up new weapons as you go, but acquiring new skills is one of the the things that makes this game fun. That was the game mechanics aspect of the answer, the ingame functionality aspect was covered by futrid. If you want to be any melee except war, mnk isn't going to be the best answer. war will be a better path, as it makes a great sub to any melee class.
Even so, I chose to take mnk to 30 to unlock the ranger subjob. Why? Because I liked mnk. Little did I know I'd get addicted to it and now I'm taking mnk to full AF before I start rng ^_^;;
