Its like saying why do Sam's get Polearm?, or DRG get swords?
HTH is mnk's best friend, also what do you think square thought? can you think of any other weapon that mnk can use? im sure there would be a few SE hate threads if hth was the only skill you had,
besides, there was a post on here somewhere from a thf that tryed to ask how can she SC Distortion with MNK pre later lvls, no one mentioned staff,
theres a lot of stuff in ffxi that has no real obvious purpose, seeing what you can do with it is half the fun,
