  • What's the point of using a Staff?

I try and try, but I can't seem to understand the reasoning behind a monk even touching these things.
Same for clubs and ninja subs, the whole thing is beyond me.

    Please, enlighten me.

    ...and lookie down there. v

For MNK there isn't much point beyond just having some fun, although before you get Spinning Attack with H2H you can quickly pick up 70 Stave skill for Earth Crusher if you want an AOE attack for farming or whatever.

Just for fun, I have 110 Stave skill and 102 Club skill. If I ever capped my Stave skill I am pretty sure it would get close to my H2H damage provided you have one of the high damage Staves equipped. MNK can equip all decent battle staves and some of them really do a lot of damage. If you are going to level a second weapon for fun, do Stave.

As for Club - MNK only get access to two decent clubs: the Shellbuster and Kraken Club. Now assuming you ever got your hands on a Kraken Club I would suggest going and capping your Club skill immeadiately . The Shellbuster at 48 is decent, but dosen't have what it takes to do better than Stave or H2H.

BTW, after level 55 it takes no time at all to get a weapon to 100 skill. Get 0 to 50 on Rolanberry Hornets, and 50 to 100 on Saromugue Skinks, Weapons, and Tabar.

      Funny thing is...
monks have enough skill to get both Black Halo AND Retribution...
that why I'm skilling them now -_-

Oh I forgot, but MNK can also equip the level 75 Conquest Club, so if you don't have a Kraken, this will be a welcome sight after 30+ levels of Shellbuster.

I don't see the point of stressing over lvling those crappy weapon types when I'll never even use them.
I'm sorry, I don't see the 'fun' in it.

Actually as soon as I started leveling staff I saw an immediate use for it. 100 fists. It speeds up the attack of your weapon, and that isn't limited to h2h. And since 100 fists with h2h is only the power of one fist repeatedly, a 100 fist with a staff could, in theory, do a lot more damage. This would be excellent for bad situations or BCNMs. I've gotten into a few skill up parties and my staff is around 140, and it does pretty good damage. Not good enough to be used in BCNM60 yet, but I think it has some potential.

Damage/delay wise, clubs and staves don't really cut it. Compare a high-level club to a high-level sword or axe, or a high-level staff to a high-level scythe, great axe, great sword, great katana, etc.

The only reason I could see to skill them up (other than fun) is if you were somehow filling a key spot in a skillchain by using something other than HTH, which is unlikely, but possible, I guess, considering the only elements we don't have are earth and ice. I guess it's also somewhat useful to skill them up for other jobs (whm uses club, staff is summoner's best weapon).

There's no actual reason for monk to use a staff or club. It's just for people who are bored.

I look for answers to questions, not smartass comments.
Whether I use staff or not is besides the point,
I want to hear a valid argument.

Though I still fail to see any advantage staff may have,
                        I appreciate the input.

Note: You may say he has the right to make a smartass comment.
Well I have the right to call him a smartass.

LOL yeah, I have to agree; compared to H2H staff is nowhere near close to DMG output. I also only do it for the fun. Slow farming is a great way to LV staff skill.

If you ever get your hands on a Kraken club, use that with Hyakuretsuken...I've flattened a Lich in 5 seconds with that (゚Д゚

But anyways, there really isn't a reason why monk should skill club of staff...
But on the flip side of the coin, you could say to yourself, "why not?"...it's fun to skill
