Luckily AF gear has a long life expectancy for MNK, but there are a few things to pick up.

(This will all be based on Ragnarok prices, your worlds may vary)

    Tactician Magician Hooks (50)
These will be your weapon of choice from 50 to at least 56 if not longer. They will run you about 30,000g from the AH, or they can be bought with Conquest Points from Windurst (not sure on the ammount, but it would be at least 16,000 CP).

    Bone Patas +1 (56)
At 56 you can look into picking these up, and its probably a good idea to do so. The DEF-10 starts to hurt when you are farming or solo, and they do better damage than the Tact. Mag. Hooks. Some people prefer the +10 Attack the Hooks give, some do not.

    Spike Earring x 2 (55)
I don't really see why a MNK would use anything else. Attack +5, Evasion -5, and for a price of about 20,000g each.

    Sun Ring x 2 (54)
I perfer the STR rings, as it greatly affects h2h damage. You will get more mileage out of STR+6 than DEX+6. Each of these will set you back about 40,000g if not more (the price goes up and down a lot it seems).

    Master's Gi (55)
This is pricy, but you really cant go wrong with Accuracy +4 and a high DEF for MNK. Costs about 100,000g, but when you get the Temple Cyclas at 58, you can sell this right back for the same price as you bought it. A very good buy.

    Master's Sitabaki (53)
Go good with the Master's Gi, and are probably the cheapest thing you will buy for the rest of the game. Should only set you back between 7,000g to 9,000g.

I won't get into the Ouchido's Kote VS Temple Gloves or Brown Belt VS Life Belt....but if you do want Kote and the Brown Belt, expect to either spend a lot of time camping, or pay 400,000g for the Kote and 300,000g for the Belt. I have used all 4 and they all have their advantages, so it comes down to personal preferance. And if you want the best piece of MNK equipment there is at level 57, you will have to pay 6 million gil or kill some very hard NM for it. The Scorpion Harness dosen't come cheap.

MNK gear starts of cheap in the early game, but after 40 it quickly starts to add up (just like all jobs). Find some good ways to make some cash and get to it. The good thing about MNK gear is that it holds its value really well, so you can sell it back for the same price you bought it for when you need to.

ty very much redlimit i was rather happy to notice that gears not overly expensive

this lvl 40 spree kinda scared me but i've almost save enuff gils for my brown belt and i'm not about to quit farming till i get a few more peices...

1 more question if you don't mind...

i hear our AF 1-3 is easier than most job classes... any truth to this?

luckily for us, the good stuff never gets outrageously expensive...
any melee trying to fundraise for Haubergeon/Hauberk/etc know what I'm talking about...

I've got full rasetsu and now each piece ranges from 60k-100k each (I bought most back when it was 100-200k each D;/ )...

You'll notice a gradual increase in most pieces, but the limit never gets exceddingly high...

Also, there are spots where respectable gear is simply dirt cheap. TigerFang Hooks on Ragnarok are 4k-5k (lv66 hooks)...
Simply a matter of how abundant the crafters are on your server...

AF1 and 2 are pretty simple. The problem with AF1 is that if you try to attempt it at level 42 there are a lot of things in gusgen that will link and make killing the NM unecessarily difficult.

Same goes for AF2. The 2 NM's that spawn for AF2 don't hit very hard, but if you risk aggroing nearby orcs that will eventually link and cause some problems. I had a high level red mage help me out with this one. He cast stoneskin, phalanx, etc etc, on himself, then when I got the NM's to pop, he diaga'd them to pull the hate to him while I was free to go search for the Hide Flap again. After I had found the flap (aggro'ing the rest of the orcs in the process), he cast chainspell then escape as a ran over to him. There are ways to 'run' from the NM's to do the quest by yourself, but it's incredibly risky and may cause problems for others.

AF3 is easy as you'll probably be going with an 18 man alliance and high level help. Only thing is, the NM has a tendency to just punch anyone he feels like. My level 54 self managed to pull hate away from a level 72 warrior and I was the unfortunate recipient of his hundred fists. He also has a very high rate of counter so you may want to swing around and attack from his backside to avoid taking unnecessary blows. Getting to the NM is very simple, while the NM himself is quite strong.

This is somewhat opposite from the bard AF3, as going through the monastic cavern in an 18 man alliance is pretty damn scary, while the actual NM that you fight there is quite weak.

DJplaeskool, what will you say is better from lv-52 to lv-56. Thanks in advance

                  DMG:+15 Delay:+91 Attack+10 DEF-10
                  Lv-50

I have to say that, I have always prefer hit harder than attack faster, but.. i really don't know what to shoose between these two.

The cesti doesn't even compare to the tactician hooks.. It would be absolutely horrible damage ;p

Keep in mind - the weapon delay is added to your hand to hand delay.. Damage is MUCH MUCH more important.

you can solo the NM that drops them (crosscounters) at 68 with 2 hour. Might be a long way off yeah but so is saving 2-3 million gil. im 0-1 on the drop but happy to find out i can do it and when he will spawn next

on another note, 66+ there is a sore lack of equipment choces for monk compared to other jobs imo

Shivas Claws at 65 are sweet and free if you have the fame and backup to kill Shiva (+11 dmg, +60 dly, +8 accuracy, effect: Paralyze), Feral Fangs at 66 (+19 dmg, +96 dly) are good but same dmg/dly as the level 50 Counters heh. Coral Earrings @5kish gil are a good buy at 63 (5 attack, -5 eva) they are cheaper than Spike Earring @30kish gil/level 55ish since theyre not a HQ combine.

Cheap Usable Stuff @upper 60s: Shiva/Feral claw, AF leg/boot/crown, Brown/Life belts, Coral/Dodge ear, Sun/Tiger/Flourite rings, AF gloves, Spike neck.

Expensive stuff Usable for 60+: Ochitos Kote, Crosscounters, Spartan Cesti, Amemit Mantle (+1), Bat Cape, Avenger Earrings, Spectacles. Then you have Scorp Harness and Peacock charm but yeah...

At 72 the Rasetsu, what do all those spike effects do? The Samue (body) has Physical Damage: Shock Spikes, the Jinpachi (head) has Blaze Spikes, Hakama (leg) Ice Spikes. What do they do if you have them all on? The normal version parts pretty much all have Latent Counterattack +1, the HQ +1 versions have Counterattack +1 non-latent which is sick and also very rare and expensive.

Dont know of many good HNM or NM monk drops either, not sure if those kungfu or wulong shoes are worth it or not. Any other H/NM drops worth discussing?

From what I understand the spell versions on ice spikes, blaze spikes and shock spikes don't stack. Equipment I of course am not sure on but I'm imagining the same. >.<
