Hmmmm ....

Well, Monk is an awesome job and I love playing with them. That said, I think you are going to have a rude awakening when you play this game. You said you don't like playing with other people ... don't buy the game. You cannot effectively solo past lvl 15 and still have hopes of progressing at a decent rate. When in a party, you are limited in your options as a subjob. Monks have a hard enough time getting groups (mostly due to people's ignroance on what a monk does) and having a Summoner, Bard, or Beastmaster sub is going make people laugh. Its very difficult to combine a melee with a mage sub (especially a Elv., due to poor MP pool) and you will find yourself out of MP very quickly. A support job is just that, a support job, not a second job. Also, as a bard, a Bard sub is the worst subjob ever. Song take too long to cast and as a melee, you just can't be doing that, and also a bard sub means your songs will only be half as effective. People say they try out unusual combinations to "have fun" which would be great if sitting around looking for a party for 10+ hours is your idea of fun ...

mnk's had a bad reputation when NA PC launched, and we're just getting over that now. comments like this make me suspect that you're nothing but a troll. a briliant one, no doubt.

Kamaaina, Futrid is right. Thats really tough for me to say because I don't agree with everything he says, and also because /I/ took mnk/thf to 42. I loved it. I was very well equiped and played it damn well, but I graduall became aware that it is a gimp job. I still use it to farm, and I'll offer it as pt flexibility above 60 when pts need dama, but mnk/war is the most efficient combo. period. It pains me to say that... >.<

This is a very real and very important point to consider. From everything you've said, this game is not for you. you're gonna get frustrated and leave, but before you do you're gonna add to the misery that the rest of us deal with every day. I honestly don't want to be mean about it, you seem like a nice person. consider not blowing the cash on this game, invest it in Lineage II or WoW where you can solo.

and i was kidding about the staff...

i just dont want to party a lot because then i'll end up making friends and i'll never become a MMORPG hitman (gets paid by players to kill other players) or become the old wise fisherman that tells of his travels to new comers. or the street proformer that only charges 50gold/gil/whatever, just to sing a song for a crowd...

In Muonline i was a street proformer(ppl gave me gifts via rare jewels and armor and one person gave me 25k zen and i only charged 50zen)
In Counquer Online i was a hitman(charged 10k per kill and if they had a strong hatred for the target, they paid 25k or 50k, one person even gave me a DragonBall[worthe 5mil in that game])
In RuneScape i was the wise fisherman who told of his travels(charged only 5gold and ppl gave me hundreds of runes[added together of course])
In Tibia, i was nothing because i partied, made friends, partied, made friends, talk, partied, made friends etc., i'll adment, it was fun, but i personally had more fun as a loner. i was able to do what i wanted, because i didnt have to go meet a friend everytime they logged on and i was busy.

In FFXI, i want to be a lone mercenary that charges 5k to help someone on a quest. or something like that...

YOU WILL PARTY A LOT

you will have to. there is really no good way to get to a lvl where you can charge ppl for help (which is pretty asinine imho) by soloing your char. it'll take you forever and a year, plus countless dying.

im a mnk only level 16 but..i get invites every nigt with in 20 mins of having my flag up dunno how it is for other people but for me im havin no trouble at all..

btw this game has no pk

this game gets pk soon but its not even in the game yet i doubt it'll be just a FFA and if it will you being a
"mercenary will have to wait for a few months till you hit a higher level

and when someone wants help with a quest its very rare they'll pay you since there are people who help for free

Square has already stated that the PvP will not be PK. It will be consensual. For more information released on PvP checkout playonline.com they have some new info up.

I hope you don't lose exp from fighting others. If we don't lose exp that will be so fun to match who is better!

no don't think you jinxed yourself becuase you haven't i have my mnk up lvl 31 mnk. i got into partys rather fast up till about lvl 25-30 and then it was to be a tank becuase of the hp boots they get. after lvl 30 i would wait for and hour or longer before i got a party and it would last long enough for someone to lvl then split.

so i started working on my adv. jobs i now have all of them xcept smn. i am now working on drg/sam and drg/war. but now that time has pasted i see more high lvl mnk then i first did. stick with it they have some awsome WS from what i have seen them use.

i dont give a rat's ass about that....many ppl keep saying party party party

well do your damned parties and stop saying"dont get the game" or "you have to pary" and leave me be...

all i wanna know is what sub would be good for a lone monk outta the list i posted. i dont care if im suppose to play a certain way(thats just not me) if you hate soloing, good dont try to rub yer partying ways on me...:sweat:

and Kajind, i didnt say anything about being a hired hitman(pker) in this game, i was give examples...and i know the differnce between PvP&Pk, any moron knows that

also, mr. neighbortaru, im at lvl 19 and ive only been in 3 parties (got the game the day it came out) (never said i didnt want to party at all)

in conclusion...i'll find out for myself

is not anyone here with a non biase(Party and solo)or(melee/mage and melee/melee)?

Here are the big choices for MNK subs:

WAR
THF
SAM
RDM (if Taru)

Of course, experimenting is always fine, but do yourself a favor, and don't sub a SMN!
