  • Are Monks better and level up faster in Solo or in Groups when in level 1-20?

I was just wondering if Monks level up faster when soloing or better in groups. Cuz I plan to get The PS2 release and start out as Monk, and I was wondering if I shoud solo or be quickly in a group in those levels. I will my best to always keep my equipements updated to my level. I heard being a Monk is pretty easy if you know what to do, and I've doing research on the job, and I found out that it's the best job for me. I will also sub Warrior when I reach lv 18, so that will help out my stats dramatically. I also belong to a Linkshell so they will help me out a lot.

You solo from 1-10 then your Party time begins you'll need to make parties because soloing is a pain at high levels 'o'b

from lvl 1-10 You can lvl be yourself. You can make PT's if you want

form lvl 11-20 you need to start to from Pt's to lvl up because the monster start to get harder and it would be crazy to solo em' by yourself.

      hoped that helped.

Someone else can elaborate more about soloing with Monks

I'm not sure what country you are from, but this method works ideal if you are from San:

        Wronfaure

        1-3 - wild rabbits / tunnel worms
        3 - 7 - Forest Hares / Carrion worms / Beetles / Funguars
        7 - WIld Sheep
        8- Orcs!

At Level 8 head to the NW part of WRonfaure to go to GhelsbaOp. Now just keep killing orcs / lizards until you get to L15. This WILL take ages, im not going to pretend it wont. However the amount of fire crystals / lizard tails you get in this place is rediculously high. From levels 10-15 I had to go back to San every level with, on average, 72 crystals (6 sets of 12). So for every level if the fire crystals are selling for 1.5k at the AH you are getting 9k for every level.

I did this with my thief and ended up with 60k in my bank when I hit L15. So this is a V nice bonus to getting into parties in getting the best gear/foods etc.

Actually I'll be starting out on San D'Oria cuz I'll be an Elvann Monk for sure. So from level 1-3, it's rabbits and worms, 3-7 it's hares, etc, and level 7, it's sheep and at level 8, it's Orcs, right?! K, I can do that! But aren't orcs hard at level 8 cuz I heard form a person that an Orc is fairly hard even at level 11. Are you sure I should be fighting these things at level 8? I don't wanna sound rude or anything, just a lil' worried. Thxs in advance !

you really don't need to follow the 1-3 kill hare etc rule, just do a check (ctrl + c) when you target the monster. if it checks as decent, you should have no problem

              Monks solo relatively easily 1-15,
after that it's best if you start getting into PTs.
              Rude, but not wrong. ;x

I'm a level 11 Monk at Windurst, where would be a good place to level up a few levels from here? Tahongi Canyon maybe? Or somewhere near Giddeus?

I really just want to get upto level 12 to get a the Burning Cesti (I think that's what it's called) Then leel upto 14 to get some armor. Then get to level 20 and re-armor / weapon myself.

I am a windrustian... so this is my experience anyway...

I soloed to lvl 10, caught up with my friends at lvl 13, then we all partied as WAR, MNK, BLM (no sub), and went to maze to fight til 18(at that time, claiming worm is possible), and then I soloed at buburimu outpost for 2 lvls in 2 days...

My input is, you might get very addicted to using a Monk, and forget about needing a sub. Due to the fact that, you can kill pretty much anything with no problem, from levels 1-10. Feeling very invincible round bout that time.

And you can go quite awhile without having to sit an heal, after level 3.

Eh, as a monk who's just coming out of that lvl range, you'll start feeling the lack of a sub once you start partying.

I can't tell you the number of times I've been in a party where either the tank, or the healers were not up to par, and everyone in the party has ended up getting chewed to peices, except me. I'd be standing there, four hundred odd hit points, untouched, as Mr. Crabby has proceeded to rip both the arms off of the Tank, and is busy beating the White Mage to death with them. With a few strategically placed provokes, one doesn't find oneself in such situations nearly as often.

Now that I've gotten my subjob, I've found that I really enjoy being the damage dealer/auxiliary tank. Straight damage gets rather dull, though I have yet to master timing skill chains. Tank is a bit more dynamic, but essentially you do exactly the same thing every fight. Swing is a much more dynamic role, requiring one to sometimes radically alter one's actions depending on the situation. Tank doing well, keep pouring on the damage. Problems with the tank, or monster on the loose, provoke and tank for a bit. It dropped in the pot? Can I kill it with my 2h? If so, then hundred fists, dodge, and Berserk. Can we hold it together given time? If so, Dodge, Defender, provoke. Can't handle it? Dodge, Defender, and Voke if there are other party members still alive, and scatter.

                          Much more interesting.
