  • Staves and clubs?

I was wondering if any of you have experimented with using staves or clubs as a monk. They are usable and I was just wondering if they're any good.

They never really get past 'ok'...
1H Staves are just a bad idea...
Monk are actually pretty good with 2H Staves however...
My 2H Staff skill is about 120 and I can do a couple hundred damage with the EarthCrusher WS...
still...no contest when compared to Ši“¬...

you want some hilarity...use MNK 2Hr with a 2H Staff...
    or better yet, MNK/NIN with 2 x 1H Staff...
    now that's fun...

you be waisting your time. Monks are most effective using hand to hand weapons by far.

With all thoses hand to hand passive abilitys we get . Hand to hand will allways outperform any staff.

(hope this isn't too far off topic...)

everyone knows h2h is teh suck against crabs, but how would club or staff fair against these monsters? i am considering carrying a second weapon around in case we're fighting something resistant to my h2h.

          Thanks Yyg!

Staves are useful if you are going to be doing a lot of lower level enemy farming (about 1/2 your current level or lower), beacuse once you get 70 skill with a Stave you get a powerful area of effect WS.

This lets you defeat more than one enemy at a time. There are quite a few Staves out there with high damage and +attack modifiers too.

Don't use them for anything serious though....

I've noticed that if I used boost as soon as it refreshes, then I could actually do consistent damage against high defense crabs.

In fact, I would go on to argue that boost is very useful in any situation where one finds that oe is frequently missing and/or doing no damage to a mob in one's level range. It's true that each boost takes up a round of game time, but the increase in hit and damage consistancy makes it more than worth it.

I wasn't laying out the beat down that I would against softer skinned targets, but I was at least doing as much damage as the other damage centric party members were.

Maybe if doing 0 dmg, but not missing. Boost decreases Acc.

Sorry, this is really old, i know...

Club or staff wouldn't help because club, staff, and h2h all fall under the 'blunt' category. Crabs are strong to blunt, that's why we suck against them.

Every MNK needs to try out Hundred Fists when you are equipped with a Stave at least once in their life.

                      Trust me on this one.

Chi blast with a staff [while in attack mode] is fun as well. At least as a female hume, it looks like I'm golfing. XD

personally the only reason i use stave or staff is to lvl it up for my casters

why do whm's try to skill up themselves? *laughs*
