New to Monk

I recently decided to make a monk but I have a few concerns:

1.) What would be a good sub job that wouldnt stop my monk from using hand to hand. If he starts using weapons then he is no better then a warrior.

2.) What about an advanced job under the same conditions as in #1?

3.) Whats a fast way to level in Bastok?

The fastest way to solo exp as a monk is to at lower levels kill decent challenges and the few even ones, but around 7-8+, kill many easy prey ones so u can use youre TP to your advantage, im about to hit lvl 14 myself and i still use this easy prey method.

if you kill easy prey, your combat skills dont increase. i find that fighting decent challenge and even match are better. im at level5 in bastok and i go up in the 'mountain' region of south guthberg or whatever. some decent monsters up there.

i see people who can deal 21 damage and they fight huge hornets. i figure why bother? the only reason i can see is the wind crystals they drop.

but my main point is, if you dont fight even challenge or higher, you dont raise your combat skill. no combat skills + high level monk = not that great, right?

If you can manage to get a low 20s group at 18/19 in Qufim, the xp will be insane. Up to 300xp per kill. :p

Remember that you can only level your combat skills so high at a time. People are telling me that when the skill number turns blue, it wont go up anymore till (I'm guessing) you hit your next level.

So once you reach that point with yer char, why not gather the TP, crystals, and make the quicker kills on easy prey?

on my monk i seem to cap out my skill within 10 minutes of levelling up, h2h flies up against decent challenge or higher.

THF is a good regular sub job

SAM is a good advanced sub job

Do you have to take a sub? What's wrong with a 100 monk? :confused:

Nothing wrong with 100% monk, but why give up a subjob that will give you more abilities, boost stats, etc?

no...your main job can be 70 and your subjob can be a maximum of 35
