  • Attack Speed Reduction... need expeirenced monks to help

I was wondering if anyone can assure me that the grappling attack speed reduction for monks cant be applied to other weapons besides "grappling" weapons.

Because i think it makes sense if it does apply to other weapons, as staves are an option given to MONKS, why cant their attack speed reduction be applied to staves. Unless staves are just a joke weapon in which case i wonder why the game developers even allowed monks to use those weapons in the first place???

Also i have seen on another website info that hints the grappling attack speed reduction is nothing more than general attack speed reduction. Here is the link.

    http://www.ffextreme.com/ff11/jobs-monk.php

this of course runs counter to the info posted on this website however.

Anyways, expeirenced monks please let me know the truth...

nope, hand-to-hand only. it's about a .2 second reduction (20 delay). As described on the Stone Cold Monk site (i can't remember the link) your grapple delay begins at 500 (really 480 since you get your first MA at lv.1) and decreases by 20 with each new MA attribute you attain. Now, it's impossible to reliably count .2 seconds per attack, but if you go into battle and time the battle without using any skills, then divide the number of hits by the time of the battle you can see the difference.

wow that is really lame. And can someone tell me what teh point of subbing monk is then if half one of the main abilities can only be used for HtH weapons.

Monks are not exactly the favorite sub class's. What it does do though is add ALOT of hp. And counter works on any weapons.

And warriors can always equip claws. And since what i've heard is counter only works when you don't evade an attack. Warriors be better off at countering more often. And surviing the effects of not countering.

People sub monk for Counter, Dodge (evade up skill), Focus (accuracy up skill), and increased HP. By Lv.70 they get chakra, that's pretty nice too. But Acc+ and Counter would be the main reasons. As a side note, no TP is gained from a successful counter.

I don't really consider MA to be the most important attribute of a monk, though over time it really adds up.

Anyway, I guess the point is that no matter what subjob you pick, you are losing something from that job as a main. You just need to decide which hole in your race/job's stats needs to be filled the most. If you have low DEX you can sub THF for a dex boost or MNK for the Acc+ active skill. It's all about choices.

p.s. you'll spend a lot of time levelling up your subjob, so you also need to pick a sub that you'll enjoy playing. nobody wants to put 35 levels into a job they absolutely hate. (Which is exactly why I didn't sub /WAR).
