  • Hume V Galka Monk.. will either work?

With US release just around the corner I was thinking about what class to make, and monk really appealed to me for whatever reason.

I'm going for a Monk/Warrior, because my group looks like it's going to need a little extra tank beyond our Paladin/Warrior and we already have a main thief. My problem is, I can't decide either Galka or Hume (haven't looked into Elvaan much.) As far as I can tell...

    Galka
    -More Strength
    -More Hp
    -More Vitality
-I hate the way they look

    Hume
    -More Agility
    -Extra Int/Chr absolutely useless?
    -Look good

    Elvaan
    -More hp than hume
    -More strength than hume
    -Less agility AND dexterity
    -Look alright

Now first of all - I DESPISE LARGE RACES. I hate how big they look. It'll annoy me non-stop when I look at my character. It's just a thing. Sooooooooo -- if I pick Hume (or Elvaan if many of you here think it's a better choice,) will I regret it later? I know Vitality is related to how well you tank, but maybe the extra agility will make up for it in dodging?

Anyhoo, desperately seeking any advice or thoughts someone has about it, thanks in advance.

Well Galka some the best stats for monks, also one hte least common as no one likes the way they look =p

Mithra make good monks as well, high dex and all. Even the little midgets can be monks. Worst stats but fun being 2ft tall.

Main problem with a Galka monk is, their stupid. Drop dead dumb. If you ever want to switch out of a melee class later, your pretty much out of luck.

Nothing less effective then a whm Galka =p

Hume or Elv both make pretty good monks and leave the options open later to other class's as their not so lopsided in their stats.

if i was you id choose a short elf if u dont mind bein a snob (well they are lol), or tall hume if you dont mind lacking in strength. Agility from humes really doesnt have much of a effect becuase the only rng atk ull ever use it chi blast. personally I dont see the point of galk over hume... mnks shuldnt tank so the hp and vit are mute points and the 4 extra str at lvl 70 lol yet elf has 8 more and only 4 lower dex at 70. So overall I think a short elf would be best if your looking for both looks and stats.
btw- short elfs are slihtly shorter then tall humes

Reason for vit is two easy reasons. First off you have no decent armor so vit is highly important. 2nd chakra or however it's spelled is vit x2 , x3 with the AF armor.

And while monks certianly aren't tanks, their furry of attacks do tend to get mob's mad. You'll have to put up with getting hit.

So would you say, based on that, I should get over it and go with Galka? Vit is important as I thought, then.. assuming I still abhor Galkas would Elvaan, then, be the next best choice? I wonder how much difference that dex will do.. Elvaan is certainly coming out better than hume, though.

            Go Hume.

It's obvious that Hume is the race that you want to be, so be it. Stats don't mean as much as all these people are making you think. The gap between Galka and Hume isn't even noticable.

The worst thing you could possibly do is to make a Galka or Elvaan Monk because they have the best stats, even though you like Humes better. Every time you see a Hume, you will wish that you looked like him/her.

Never play a character that you don't like.

Ditto. Humes make fine monks. And the 2 hour ability is just an awesome sight.

I went hume mnk/war in beta. Was fine. The only thing is that galka have higher hitpoints, but you can fix that with proper equipment. Imho tho, its better to increase attack and accuracy stats which is what I'll do in retail

I'm by no means a huge galka fan. It's just he facts they make pretty good monks.

The down side is obvious though, if you EVER want to do anything else. They make pretty lousy casters. I'd imagine they make pretty bad paladin's to with their low mind.

Hume may not be the best monk, but their far better mages then any galka.

That's true, but I'll definately be sticking with Mnk/War.. maybe Mnk/Sam someday to give it a whirl. After thinking about it, I'm probably going with Galka.. they have superior vitality, and although a monks not a tank, thus making elvaan a better choice for damage, the Galka also has higher dex.. meaning I'll hit more, which is quite important to me for some reason. I dunno. Hume is still looking okay too, but if I never make use of other classes hume stats would help, they kind of go to complete waste.
