I don't know why everyone suggest going Red/Black or White mage when Taru can own in just about every job or am I just crazy enough to try. =P In Beta I'm taru Monk/Bst but in retail I'll be Nin/Monk. (if they open up ninja in beta, I'll make that a reality soon enough) Don't knock the little people and to all my Monk/Nin/Sam Taru out there keep kicking butt!

Every race is good at every job. One of the things I love most about this game is how well balanced it is, every race can be as good as the other at a job if you play it right. Hell, even a galkan blackmage could be as good as a taru blackmage if you play smart.

The only difference between races is the MP difference they'll have. Tarus will have the most MP, and Galkans will most likely have the least. On the other hand, Galkans will be the strongest of whatever job they choose, and Tarus will be the weakest.
But then again, I'm still sure that certain races do better with certain weapons.

the reason the lil ones are down is cause of their crap str.
Galkas have highest HP and str, they make the best monks. Tarus are "OK" at melee classes....but no...dont. Thats like a galka being a mage...it can be done...but no ...its not meant to be. Dont get me wrong I dont hate taru melees, one of my friends is a taru DRG. But Tarus dont own melee classes, they own mage classes."Hence banished is banished from the world, and the worlds exile is death."

Um, actually, Elvaan have the highest strength, not Galka. Galka have the highest VIT.
As for cookie-cutter characters, well . . . TaruTaru sure look neat in heavy armor and such, but they are really behind the 8-ball when it comes to melee combat. They have the lowest str, lowest vit, and lowest hp of any race. This means they dish out less damage when attacking(on average), they have lower defense causing them to take more damage(on average) when hit, and they have less hitpoints, so they can get crushed more quickly than your friendly neighborhood Galka. I usually play a white mage(played one in beta), and trying to keep TaruTaru tanks alive was just heartbreaking. The little buggers just died too easily. I've dealt with a TaruTaru samurai/war and war/<no sub> and both were terribly fragile. TaruTaru thieves did just fine, I should note(they don't usually try to tank. Wisely), and a TaruTaru ninja could get by throwing Blink bags a lot. Anyone can tank well with Blink up constantly.
You could overcome some of the limitations of a TaruTaru monk using TaruTaru RSEs, but those only go so far.

I admit it: I haven't played the game, but there is one thing that always strikes me as terribly wrong every time I hear it...
Let's take a Taru mnk/war for example. I fully agree that if the player is very good, the character is perfectly viable and will do a great job. Let us assume a Mithra mnk/war also. In all battle stats, the Mithra will be higher all along the line.
I often hear that if the player is good enough, the Taru will be "as good" as the Mithra for this class, and that quality of equipment/player skill will make up for it. That is the part that I have problem understanding.
Yes, a good player with a Taru monk with good equipment is better than a bad player with a Mithra monk with bad equipment. However, IF we take both players to be of equal skill and that both character possess the same equipment, the Taru can't possibly be equal, right? The sole thing that one possess throughout their entire life is hope.

Tarus do own a lot at jobs, but u could just as well argue with any other character at a job. I dont know how a galka white mage could turn out though, same with elvaan black mage. But im sure it does.

Actually starting Galkan and Elvaan have equal strength, and dex... galks have 1 more agil Why do a handful of people try to say that elvaan have more strength? Also why would anyone make an elvaan over a galkan for a pure warrior combo?? .. galks have > or = str dex and agil and more HP.. of course im a bit partial to the elvaan charactor models myself...How to speak San d'Orian

http://www.shadow-dragons.com/races.htm
you will see that galka are C class in strength, and elvaan are B. elvaan are the strongest characters.
yeah they are the same at first, but later on you will see the elvaan get stronger. a monk galka has 62 str, yet elvaan have 66. its not a big difference, but there still is one. Elvaan is still stronger

The data on the shadow-dragons page is inaccurate. They took the classes assigned each class 36 points and the letters value are as follows A-7 B-6 C-5 D-4 E-3 F-2 G-1 the table is not based on any hard data.

brought my baking sheet
I'm making an Elvaan Drk and it's going to own. Taru melee is great its the cutest thing ever, but that's selfish. Your friends will depend on you. Sure if you know what you are doing then it will work out ok. better than a galkan or elvaan that doesnt know what to do.... but a galkan or elvaan that does know what to do is way better ;0 ooh its true T.T taru melee is not what's best for the group. Especially at later levels when the game difficulty is much higher. Im going to cut cookies like jesus.
