Dragon Question

I've read through the boards, and i get the impression that the death of a dragoon dragon pet is well.....VERY bad, like almost certain death bad. My question is, why is it so bad, is it because Dragon does so much damage or somethign to that effect or am i missing something...

Summoning the dragon is the Dragoon's 2 hour ability(super ability: it takes 2 hours to recast) so if it dies you have to wait before recasting the spell to summon it.
