  • Maat - Revised Strategy?

Well, with the new update now, DRGs should really not struggle on Maat at all now.

Sleep until 270 odd % TP.

Engage Maat. Jump, High Jump, one melee hit, Spirit Surge, Jump, Penta Thrust, TP Wing, Penta Thrust, High Jump ... = Win?

PRE-Update, I did the above, but cut out everything before Spirit Surge, but still won.

So with average/decent/normal gear, one should win without much effort now? With both DRG updates I think it somewhat has officially made the fight out of all the jobs the easiest fight, and cheapest too. You won't even need potions or elixirs or whatnot.

Anything else we need to add? This will ultimately become the generic DRG Maat Strategy.

    Re: Maat - Revised Strategy?

Well, I went in as a lvl 66 dragoon, what I did was:

Sleep to 150%ish tp (about 6 sleeping potions)
    Use blink band
    Eat 1 Sole Sushi
Run in and hit him once, unleash Penta Thrust, wyvern does breath attack
Melee him until I reached about 60%tp and got a bit low on hp
Spirit Surge, got a bunch of tp from Lumiere
Use Jump for Defense down effect and tp
    Penta Thrust
Hit my High Jump macro, but I think I killed Maat before it went off.

Reason I saved my High Jump macro was because I wanted to prevent him from using a WS, he never used one on me the entire time.

I would say you do not need any healing meds, and that you shouldn't need an Icarus Wing either for this fight.

Oh, and I guess I should say that I am a mithra drg with pretty decent gear.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

On a similar note, I recently did ENM 60. It was so easy with my jumps resetting. Maat was pretty easy using sleep pots, tp wing and SS, so I would imagine him being even easier now.

        Re: Maat - Revised Strategy?

I was looking for something in my FFXI notes last night on my workstation and noticed I have a few videos of various jobs fighting Maat. With the updates to SAM and DRG I was wondering how it changed their Maat fight. So I went out trying to find some new videos, and haven't been able to find any. (I'm curious about DRG75s that went back to fight him again. Perhaps doing a solo Light Skillchain on the bastard for the win. Impulse Drive > Vorpal Thrust > Wheeling Thrust.)

IF anybody has any of these videos, or knows where I can find some, lemme know. I'm curious how it changes the fight. I doubt I'll ever take DRG past Lv.40, but I do plan to fight Maat as SAM. Wondering how Hasso and Seigan now factor into it.

          Re: Maat - Revised Strategy?

I'd imagine Seigan makes the Samurai fight rather easy now, as they can just Third Eye the majority of his attacks away. With him not gaining TP from his hits, Maat theoretically would have a harder time fighting Samurai and unleashing his TP moves, but then again, that's just theory (a sound one though, at least).

SAMs don't actually fight Maat, they skillchain him to death right off the bat (sort of like how WARs go Mighty Strikes Raging Rush -> Raging Rush.) But, yes, Seigan does make it easier since they have to worry less about their HP while they're doing their thing.

I kinda figured that was the case. It's like you said, Seigan just lets the Samurai worry less about thier HP while Maat takes it to the face over and over and over...

You don't need an icarus wing at all really but you can use one at the beginning instead of sleep potions if you care about the BC time.

In the end, even pre-update this was one of the easiest Maat fights. The reset on jump timers just makes it even easier.

It'd be a bit cheaper that way too, the Opo opo necklace cost about 100k, sleeping potions I made myself but those would add up to 15k, and an Icarus Wing only costs 10k-20k.

Might be better to just go with the wing and forget the necklace/sleeping potions.

The Blink Band though I don't know if you'd want to get rid of it, blinking away 3 hits is useful, but it cost me 70k, I only used it once, and for right now I have no further use for it, and now I can't resell it on the AH.

I'll find a use for it eventually though =^.^=

I forgotten about the blink band in my post ...

Use it for ENM60 Pulling the Strings. That's where 99% of all my charges go nowadays, or any random BCNM40(+) I do.

yeah, the blink band helps a ton with Pulling the Strings

I honestly think that Pulling the Strings is tougher then Maat now. lol
