  • Resurgance of the DRG/SAM?

Anyone else as excited about this as I am? The DRG/SAM, after having been out of favor and functionality for so long, is once again primed to take one of the top spots as a preferred Dragoon sub job again.

I would say, though, to see how effective Hasso and the other Traits/Abilities are as a sub before just outright saying "/sam FTW!!!!". If they're truly nice, then Samurai may have just beaten Warrior out as the best melee DD sub for Dragoon.

I know I'd take a Haste, Accuracy, and Strength bonus that's always on than a 3 minute Berserk that I have to wait for 2 minutes on before I get it again (and may have to drop early due to the loss of Defense).

I dunno, what do you guys think?

    Re: Resurgance of the DRG/SAM?

Of the "two-handers" out there, I think this is the combo that's going to be revived. I feel DRG gains much more from this than DRK and WAR do.

You get a Berserk~like ability that's can always be active, Haste, Acc Bonus (Which most DRGs don't need anyway, but it may help you guys eat Meat Dishes more often), and some more STR which is a modifier for all your WS's. Now we don't know how much of an attack bonus it will be, but I can't imagine it's something silly like Atk+10. So you guys gain Meditate, Store-TP, Zanishen, and the two new abilities by Lv.60. Sounds like a Win/Win for you guys.

I'd also imagine this would make you guys more attractive when it comes to Lv.3 skillchains too. Since Wheeling Thrust can open for a number of jobs to make Light. Join a party with a THF and a DRK, and you can basically do Light once or twice a fight. I do believe this update will bring at least two DRGs out of retirement in my LS. lol

I guess it all depends on what future changes WAR and DRG get, as well.
Who knows - SE may balance WAR abilities to compensate.
But I agree - the DRG/SAM looks like a nice combo. Zanshin (Meditate) at 40. Hasso at 50.
      Combined with Store-TP, and Jumps.... <skillchain>? <yes, please>.
At the very least, it's another viable option to DRG/WAR and DRG/THF

        Re: Resurgance of the DRG/SAM?

We've never seen a JA that enhances a base stat (STR, DEX, VIT, etc). If I had to guess, Hasso will be something like...

        +5 Acc
        +5 Str
        +5% Haste/10% Delay Reduction*

*We don't know that it'll actually be haste. It may very well be a delay reduction. If so, you'll get higher DoT but the same tp-gain. It'd actually be very interesting if it is a delay effect, due to it's effects on Jump. A smart DRG would want to drop Hasso before using any Jump, and then reactivate. This would give them a slight tp-advantage. Of course, if it's just straight haste, everyone will get a tp advantage out of it. If it's delay reduction, it'll likely be a higher % than what you'd get out of Haste, due to Haste being potentially tp-gain unbalancing. Of course, Zweihander jobs already have lower access to Haste+ gears, so a Haste JA should even them out with Mnks and Nins.

And Tdh, I still think you're gonna like /sam for your Drk. You can level WAR when you wanna Dual Wield axes. I know you have it up there. Imagine being able to use Souleater in Exp with a Faster-than-normal Scythe.
"And if he left off dreaming about you, where do you suppose you'd be?"

I'm going to have to try it out in the least.

Depending on the gains from it and their significance it could well be the melee sub of choice.
