1st off i will tell a little about me i have been playiing on and off since o3 nad i am also a hume is bastok.


Now this is my problem I am a lv 10 war which i am thinking of being a Dragoon. But i had many things about being weaker than other job classes and yo need to spend BIg money to keep it even or maybe better at dealing damage.

Now on the other side i am also a lv 9 Blackmage which i like being and i was thinking of becoming a summoner. The only problem that i see is i am alot weaker when attacking the harder monsters.

I like to party but i dont have as much time as i used to party up and play for 1-3 hours.

I don't fully follow your post, how much time do you have to play at the moment?

Dragoon and Summoner are both jobs that are considered relativly weak, although this is a stereotypical view invites will still be slow. Both jobs can solo decently and to decently gear a drg costs no more than it does to decently gear other jobs if not less later on. Now lets look at what each does;

Dragoon is a DD pure and simple in partys, sub war or maybe thief later on and hit away. Access to the jumps and accuracy bonus make this a relativly fast TP gainer, and polearm at early levels has access to some great Weapon Skills. Solo drg can sub whitemage or redmage, and get access to a healing wyvern that will cure you when you are below 25%(i think) when you cast a spell yourself (e.g. Dia) or 33% when you get your AF Helmet. /brd also works for solo but i'm not very knowledgable on that subject. Invites early on with this job won't be bad at all, just as with all jobs invites won't really slow until the late 60's.

Summoner in partys is unfortunatly usually called on to main heal. With a decent ninja (or 2 ninja before ni) tank(s) you can usually make good use of your avatars too, or with a decent amount of refresh later on, as a PLD with plenty of refresh can be pretty self sufficient aswell as you getting it on top of your job trait and a vermi if you can afford it. Other than curing with /whm you can use your avatars, although meleeing with them is often a waste of MP, you get to use a blood pact every minute which can either buff your party, or do some form of enfeeble or damaging attack. Summoner comes into its own at 70 when it gets access to the later Blood pacts which can dish out some large numbers.

Now unfortunatly both these jobs aren't particularly popular for invites, but then very few jobs are. In the end i'd recommend you play about with both and don't rule out other jobs. Summoner in dunes will probably suck so i'd try and take it further if you have the patience.

to add~ the new zones really favour piercing damage for alot of the camps, making DRG a very effective DD in those areas.

if you are thinking of playing as a smn, remember to drink juices. this will let you keep your carby out longer, and allow you to solo far into your lvls. If you solo on just worms, you can go all the way to lvl 20 and skip the dunes all together.

Drg is my favorite tho, and i didn't have slow invites till around lvl 32 when i went to garlarge citidel. lvl whm and you can solo.

and the healing breath %'s he gave are wrong.
its 33% for mage's before the af helm, and 50% after
brd , drk and pld are 25% before the af helm, and 33% after.
Brd is useful because you can cast you songs quikly, and i HEARD that they cannot be interupted

ohh yes i know that. I want a job that will be fun and keep me interested. I know after lv 50 or 55 you do not get anymore skills as a dragoon. as a corsair i dont really know much about it. But after seeing pirates of teh carribean i would love to play as one. i want a job that is great to play and strong. I dont want to be just attacking it blindly i would like to have some thought into the way the battle ends

Play the jobs, until atleast lv30, then you can make out which you like the best.

i lvled whm, blm, rdm, war, drk, pld, sam, nin, to at least 20 to see if i like it. some jobs i like others i dont. RDM is always for me but some jobs i have to lvl as a sub. try what you want, lvl it to 20 or so and see if you like it

Songs can be interrupted, but usually only if you are hit during the first 10% or so.

there is more thought then you may think in playing DRG. even I joke that I can engage and go get a coke or sandwich and come back for a ws, but honestly there is more to it then that. knowing when to use which jumps is a minor skill but you would be amazed how many dragoons don't understand them properly.

personally I would advise you to level up warrior and white mage and see what you enjoy. those are most likely going to me your subjobs of choice for DRG or SMN respectively. coincedentally, both of those seem to be viable subs for COR as well.

I like COR but you may want to hold off on seriously levelling it until they flesh out the AF quests ect as the main 'pirate' aspect of the job comes from the storyline. the job itself in practice doesn't seem very pirate-ish.

I can't understand half of what you wrote, but if you've been playing since 2003 and you're highest level job is level 10, perhaps you need to find a game other than FFXI. It takes maybe one week of on-again-off-again play to reach level 10 on a new job.

First of all, try and keep your 'query' posts in one thread - theres now three about the same thing - you think SMN is broken and you want to play another job that has a pet out all the time.

We get it.

You seem to be extremely uninformed.

As such it sounds like you are relying on second hand information to base your whole future of playing the game. Let me tell you, even though you will get some great advice on FFXI forums about jobs, you CANNOT form a personal opinion until you have played them yourself. If you do then you might as well stop playing the game now because I said so.

Dont be so gullible to put all your faith in heresay, especially on other forums aside from here - the maturity factor is ZERO everywhere else, and besides, my personal experience is that these comments and discussions are factored level 60+, by all means open up a job you want to play, but PLAY IT before forming an opinion. Dont diss it before you have it because in 50 levels it will be expensive to play, or because of one dunes party you had you want to give up altogether.

My guess is that you really arent that serious about playing the game anyway, how can you even know, first hand, about a job you have only seen others (possibly really poor people) playing?!

Bottom line - get the job, play the job, see if you like the job. If not, level something else, if you are still disappointed, go do something else with your time. But relying on second hand information that you dont fully understand is futile.
