I am thinking about making myself a dragoon/samuri but the only fact is that I wouldn't be able to use berserk or provoke which are quite valuable, can somone give some a reason to choose this path or should i stick with my DRG/WAR.

for the rest of the thread -Dragoon functions better naked than any other melee naked, as far as I can tell (This is with up-to-date weapon, all other 15 slots nude). I think that's a big part of it. I've never been a fan of one job > others though. I love Dragoons. I think they're just as valuable as warriors or bards (hah, in a perfect world). And I feel the same about samurai and dark knights and rangers.

Not exactly a "current thread" but i was reading back and i have actually kinda stopped playing my DRG because everyone and their brother wants to fight prey that is strong against piercing. I actually had a MNK talk about how awesome his raging fists was when 75% of my Double-thrusts (pre-penta of course) were doing more damage. keep in mind that he had the Weapon typ advantage. I have since then leveled my Staff skill for fighting some mobs such as undead, where polearms are seriously gimped.

Couldn't find the edit button: I have also recently finished leveling DRK, SAM and THF to 20+ ( THF being 25) and every one of those jobs i get OOOHH and AHHHs, but when i get an EXP party as a DRG i have the feeling that i am pre-ordained to be hated by the party due to my job choice. (Even though im MOST parties i have better gear than the other DD and sometimes the tank >_<)

^^ With regards to lower level groups, DRGs, and bias... I'd wager there are a fair number of servers that don't even see a DRG pre-20.

Being one of the few DD classes that can effectively solo, a lot do. Especially in those early levels when you can avoid Valkurm Dunes groups.

So it's often 20+ when groups get their first look at the DRG, and that's when we've just acquired a Platoon Lance and have better dps than the majority of other DDs at that point, so we end up tanking half the time.
Even as far as 27, I was often inadvertantly tanking, especially with NIN tanks.

So I'm sure DRGs occasionally get a bad reputation as being "wanna be DRKs" since we often pull hate, especially at the early levels.


As to some previous questions, yes DRG/SAM can be viable. It wasn't for awhile, but now might be as of next patch.
I'll certainly be levelling up SAM to 25+.

Fact: Dragoon the job rocks. The players however are among the worst in the game for some reason. Theres around 10% of drgs that have good gear and know what they are doing.

Bulls eye , but there's always 1 every now and then that surprise us . in person ~50% of DRGs i pted with don't even use food lol . and the rest are completely lost regarding food choices .
my openion : few ppl have really unlocked the full potential of the DRG .
