  • Debuffing Problems

    I party as Drg/Thf and I solo as Drg/Whm.
I love soloing, it's a lot of fun and I don't have to set aside 2+ hours, I can just go and solo for a bit every day.

I'm reaching the stage where I can't debuff anything though.
My soloing gear is pretty much the same as my partying gear, with the exception of the Electrum Hairpin, a Mana Ring and the Pigeon Earring for more HP (better HB trigger).

As a taru I have rather low mind.
All of my magic skills are capped as drg since I'm a level 54 whm, so that's not the problem.

Has anyone worked out a good way of overcoming this? A level 22 whm isn't going to be able to land paralyze on a 40+ mob very easily, and that's what I'm effectively doing.
How do you do it after level 60?

    Re: Debuffing Problems

With your limitted skill I don't think there's anyway around it... we're looking at 100+ skill below your main level here.

I don't think any DRG debuffs tho. I think they all safe MP just to cast dia to activate the wyvern's healing breath.

yeah all I did was cast protect and shell if needed, blink and stoneskin sometimes as well, and then saved the rest of my MP for Healing breath

        Re: Debuffing Problems

BST main here, I've never casted a debuff on a mob since level 10 BST but it's more about hate than landing debuffs.

But from my experience, half level debuffs don't do much, the only exception I've found is Dia (II). I've never seen Dia resisted. I may do 0 damage but it'll atleast lower my prey's defence and my fights suddenly become much, much faster.

Question: is it possible to solo DRG from the ground up? I've taken up BST in hopes it'll last me though college but as you can see, it didn't help. Now I need a new solo job

Yes. It's a very different experience from BST solo, but it's entirely possible. You probably won't make quite as much XP/hour as you do on BST, though.

            Re: Debuffing Problems

As a 65 drg/18 rdm, I did land slow on a Troll during beseiged. Go figure. I usually fight eps when I solo, so landing a debuff is really a waste of mp and time. Although paralyze would be nice if it landed, but I am sure it wouldn't last long if in fact it stuck. I would suggest saving mp for buffs and healing breaths.

              Re: Debuffing Problems

I have the problem of having very little hp compared to a non-taru drg of my level, so I use my mp to actually cure myself and try to debuff.
Triggering HB can be very dangerous as a taru.

If you don't mind spending money soloing, I'd recommend Carbonara for a massive HP boost. Also, you can macro HP+ gear in on healing breath triggers and macro it right back out. My HB triggers on /BRD all swap in two pieces of HP+ gear, then /wait 2 (singing time), then macro more melee-ish gear back in.

Works like a charm; I've tested, and HB definitely triggers at the threshold of the HP+ gear. You'd have to adjust the /wait for each spell on DRG/mage, obviously. I thought about making full-fledged gear-swap macros, but the timing is iffy enough as-is.

I shall have to ponder that and see what I can come up with :-)

                        Hi-o,
drg41/whm here, and I have been fighting Ivory Lizzards like crazy lately going after the marble slab for Tele-Yhoat (finally got it btw). Any way after 5.5 hours of fighting EP, I found that I land paralyze on 80% of mobs. It lasts about 2/3 - 3/4 of the fight. I play a mithra (manthra) and my gear only gives me +2mnd/int. Dunno if that helps, I'm guessing as I go I'll get resisted more often until it reachesthe point where it's just not worth castin it anymore.

                          /nod

Those lizards are 32-35, so 12-15 levels above your subjob. Your MND is 8 higher than a Mithra WHM20, plus the 2 from the gear. That doesn't sound such a massively drastic gap to land Paralyze on a mob that's weak to Ice (lizards are).

The further you level, the bigger the gap between what's EP to your main and the level of your subjob gets. At 75, an EP would check to 37 (subjob) as IT with so many plus signs behind it it's not funny. The gap would be too big to reliably land a debuff.

Although magic skill of DRGs with /Mage doesn't work very good, in ballista, I do stick it on people 15 levels higher then me sometimes...

                              {Hmmm.} {That's interesting.}

I rarely have problems debuffing a mob with Paralyze-in fact, that's always how I start any battle as a DRG/WHM. And if it gets resisted the first time, I try a second-third time. And, hell, my enfeebling isn't even capped. (Amazingly enough, if I land it the first time, it sticks all the way to the end-but if I land it the 2nd or 3rd time, always wears off seconds later.)
