Re: ws dmg
Penta Thrust has the most potential, but at the same it's a very risky weapon skill to use. Unless you're packing on the accuracy you should stick to something else. Vorpal Thrust is useless, you'll probably still be using Double Thrust until you get Skewer, and even then Skewer isn't that great. You can't really expect Skewer to do more than 500 damage at most. Wheeling Thrust and Impulse Drive are pretty much the same.
If you're subbing Thief that's another story, you might be able to achieve 800+ damage Wheeling Thrust or Impulse Drive with Sneak Attack.

Re: ws dmg
Skewer, Double Thrust and Wheeling Thrust all have STR mods. Penta has STR and DEX mods. One reason ppl sub thf at 65 for Wheeling Thrust is that they macro in alot of STR equipment and use the SA so they don't miss. I do not think you will use Vorpal Thrust unless you are partying with a mnk and trying to make Distortion.

Re: ws dmg
Ive actually found that 70+ in a spam WS party, Penta is still tops. I still /war and with all 5 hits connecting + beserk and from time to time + warcry, Ive got some really nice #s. For higher skillchains though, Wheeling Thrust and Impulse Drive are really the only way to go. They aren't super, but then again Drgs are often meant to be skillchain openers, so its your job to help start off that giant ending WS + MB.

Re: ws dmg
Personally I've found Impulse Drive to be quite weak, sadly. Wheeling thrust is pretty consistent across the board, tho it rarely does our best dmg. But sometimes you want consistency more than the high numbers. Pentathrust needs a fair chunk of acc to ensure it reaches its potential bearing in mind it's a 5 hit weaponskill, but as such, it can provide the best dmg, all things being equal. Skewer can give decent results, maybe a bit better than Wheeling at times, but not as much as the potential of Pentathrust. Admittedly I don't often use it now.
For some really really rough figures, like on dynamis mobs as 75 drg/war, it could be something like this:
Wheeling thrust > 500-600 (hovers around 550 quite consistently)
Pentathrust > 600-800 (variance because of how many of the 5 hits land)
Impulse Drive > 300-500
If I recall, with double minuet, atk food and probably berzerk, I think I can achieve over 900 with Pentathrust on dynamis mobs. Generally over 1000 if I get a double attack (on dynamis mobs). ;o It's a really nice weaponskill when you know your accuracy is decent enough. Otherwise, against stuff with higher def or higher evasion, I'll just use Wheeling Thrust. It's a safety weaponskill. I dislike Impulse Drive. It nearly always returns poor numbers, even if it's a nice looking animation (sadly). It always has trouble matching Wheeling thrust, or seems to for me, despite that they both have the same modifier I think (+50%str). It's like a higher lvl version of Double Thrust I guess. ;x
