From looking at the equipment guide and stats on the AF, I assume it is 100% ok to skip AF questing for Dragoon?

Re: Drg and AF

you need AT LEAST the helm pre-70 and then maybe go for the optical hat ( but the helm is still nice )Never fear Death... simply become it...

Song: (Don't Fear) The Reaper Lyrics
All our times have come
Here but now they're gone
Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain..we can be like they are
Come on baby...don't fear the reaper
Baby take my hand...don't fear the reaper
We'll be able to fly...don't fear the reaper
Baby I'm your man...

Helemt for Wyvern breath (macro in before a WS)
Body for Wyvern Regen (macro in uummm....nevermind )
Legs for Wyvern HP + 10% (not really needed but usefull)
Gloves for parrying +10 (again not needed but nice to have :p)
Feet for Jumping (macro your feet in before a jump)-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Drg and AF
Personally, I dont see why people are so into the AF helm. The "main" advantage is provides is "Wyvern Uses Breaths More Effectively". You have to figure what during leveling parties, you will WS probably once per battle. This means that this effect is only being used once each fight and it really doesnt matter much when you are opening the WS anyway. As it stands my wyvern is probably using the correct breath attack 2/3 of the time anyway. I am still using my Walkure mast I got back in the 40's. I find +6 attack much more useful overall than the AF helm. HOwever some people don't "feel" like a dragoon w/o the helm either. /shrug Play the job how you like. I'm not saying the AF helm isnt worth the effort, I just dont use it pesonally for said reason.

Re: Drg and AF
I think all the pieces are useful, but I would agree with somebody if they said you didn't have to have them right at the moment you hit each of those levels.
For instance, if fighting Goblins, the new timer on Wyvern is definitely useful, but Bomb toss can still keep your wyvern out of play most of the time. The Body and Legs are useful for countering that. Legs are great if you ever play with a mage sub. Gloves are good for solo or if you regularly have to take some hits, for instance as the trick buddy. Helm is great for more reliable damage from your wyvern and more reliable healing when you use a mage sub. Feet have already been discussed.
All in all, DRG AF matches the job very well. Versatility, not DD focus. Not to mention DRG arguably has one of the best looking, most unique AF sets out there. I recommend getting the pieces, but don't lose sleep over not having it ready when you hit that level. Besides, by the time you hit 74, AF +1 will be very tempting.4 out of 3 people have a problem with fractions. . .

Re: Drg and AF
Balodoth and Battleangel pretty much nailed it.
I would prefer the Walkure mask over the AF helm, but the helm is a nice substitute considering all the AF pieces are free.

Re: Drg and AF
OK its not even a matter of if the peices of equip or not only useful or not well they are, but if you skip the af you miss out on alot of the story behind the job and you fail to take any pride what so ever in your job. So if you wanna skip AF then find a new job, because dragoons take pride in thier job.

Re: Drg and AF
The helm allows you to use Healing Breath at 50% health rather than 33%. That's asstons more useful than +6 Atk, because a Drg/Whm can get more done than solo than in parties at certain points in the game. If you want the helm you'll have to quest the AF weapon, and you'll have to quest the AF feet, but from there you're on your own in terms of the rest of the AF. It's the most stylish AF in the game and at certain points extremely hard to get.
