Re: How is the path of dragoon??

I've never had a good experience with Drg/Thf. Most of the time I need to use Skewer, which is 3 hits, and the extra TP goes to accuracy rather than Atk, so it doesn't go well with SA. Not to mention I've always been the median between other jobs subbing Thf and the monster's backside. It's best to have /War for versatility.

I can kind of see how SA might be useful on Skewer, because the first hit would be guarunteed and critical, but if the other two miss it's almost like a normal critical. Using Mithkabobs and Berserk I've been able to reach 600+ and 1000+ with Skewer and Penta respectively.

But hey, if you're fighting goblins more power to ya. Most of the new dragoons I see are piss poor; can't hurt if you sub Thf and steal some beastcoins, or scales from pugils, etc. Gotta afford a SH somehow

Re: How is the path of dragoon??

I've found that /war ends up in much faster TP gain. SA will always hit, but Double Attack makes a huge difference overall. Imho, you should just level both so the option to SATA is always there if you need. I've found better results with /war, however.

DRG is a very tough job to level, to be honest. I absolutely love playing the job, which is the only reason that I'm so patient with it. Levels 1-40 are a breeze, because DRG honestly has the potential to be the best DD at those levels. 40-55 slow down a little bit. 55+ (especially from Wheeling Thrust on), DRG just doesn't get the respect it deserves. Hopefully the next patch will have some buffs for DRG (especially in the way of equipment...).

Speaking of equipment, as others have said, its probably not as expensive as other DDs- mainly because we.. have... no... equipment. While others are saving up for Ochiudo's or a Hauby, we get to browse the AH wishing there was something to get, lol. Honestly though, scorpion harness (if you really want one) and Sniper's seem to be the top of the expense list. I plan on using mostly AF1, AF2, and Barone gear at 75 (the former two in the list being free).

If I could get a SH I wouldn't need snipers. I'd probably get Str+4 rings and laugh as I wreck the planet with my weapon skills.

Party set up and tactics should dominate the sub.

BLMs can MB so hard later in the game, that you would only need 1 SC to finish a monster.

In that case /thf for one SC setup.

If you got a pt set up that can't do this, it's better to sub /war for 2 SCs, especially when you got another fast TP gainers.

Aother problem is a pt can usually only support 1 /thf or thf.

And finally as you head to lvl 73+, and things becomes so easy, /thf actually holds you back, because by the time you hit SC, the monster health is low enough for the nuke of death.

Re: How is the path of dragoon??

Only bad thing for me going back to /war is that I'm going to have to buy loads of equipment, again, and level war up, again. My warrior job is only lvl 20. Then again, I am oing to have to level thief later anyhow so I could probably simultaneously level both to 37. Right now, I finally got my PS2 networked and so I got another FFXI-account and going to level my newest character up in a fashion that'll get me plenty of equipment for my warrior and gil.

Hard to find PTs, yes. Useful endgame, not really any more useful than melee in general. If you want to be useful, you will have to work hard for it. There are some high points for drg, but many low points.

I thought this thread covered it already?

Yes, at lvl 61 atm. Invites are tough and you have to donate some lfp time into it. Without the right equipment at 60+, your only going to disappoint yourself, watching you dmg dwidle and begin to miss more. Not to mention the fact that we're armor gimped.. forcing us to wear some types of armors MUCH longer than most other jobs. Battle Gloves naming one.. You`ll look at yourself then say.. "Yeah.. I should buy better gear." I'm allready saving for barone gear. =/ 60+ is the expansive part of DRG. Period.

Re: How is the path of dragoon??

The job is rough to build. I feel more time is spent into leveling dragoon all the way then many others simply due to standing and money. However, that clearly does not stop me nor other dragoons from playing the job. We play the job because we love the job. We dont play it because we want to brutaly own everything.

That is also why all dragoons have a close fellowship. Those who stick it out and live the true life of a dragoon can relate. In turn we all are there for each other. I was helped by a fellow dragoon to get the job and one day I will do the same for another. All I ask is that the person lives the job to the fullest.

According to a certain other thread on this board, it appears the DRG job just got better. So, the path will definitely be better.

The path yes, the end of the path, no. Drg did not recieve any change to make it more usefull HNM hunting.
