Well i ono, i do see a problem because sometimes another provoke really does help save that mage from death, many times that one voke made the difference, and not every party is going to have another voker, say another DRG/MNK came. Then what?

You are free to sub what you want, really you can, but it is absolutely better to sub WAR or even WHM for those breaths. So go ahead and sub MNK and i hope you find parties with another voker besides the main tank often.

lol, I subbed whm from drg 1-19 & never once was I asked to change to war sub. You might have it all right with the PT's just go ahead & sub mnk if you want to

I think my entire point of my last post was just ignored.

I know and accept that, if I sub Monk, that I will be missing out on Provoke. I honestly don't see a problem with it. I can accept the consequences that I may not get an invite to a party, simply because I lack /war, which is fine in my opinion. As long as I am in a party with a Tank and a backup, my sub choice is fine.

Sure, I'll may be passed on some pt invites, and I eventually have to put away my monk sub, this is fine with me. Atleast I'll have fun playing the game, albeit a bit differently, which is what this game is supposed to be about.

It's hard enough fot DRGs to get a party as it is. You're just making it more difficult for yourself.

Well.. as long as you understand that DRG/MNK will get almost never get invites... sure. You are always welcome to sub whatever you like. Just don't act surprised if other players don't share your view that it's effective and pass you over for other, better-suited candidates.

Being different because you know that you bring something special to a party is one thing. Being different just to be different, regardless of how much less effective you are, is something else entirely.

If you do insist on playing DRG/MNK, I recommend you find a nice thick stack of books to read while looking for parties.

What makes you so sure that I'm guaranteed no invites /mnk? I'm pretty sure there are worse subjob choices. I really don't understand this, war gives NOTHING to Dragoon (again, at those levels), excluding provoke; which helps out, alot, however is not a necesity.

If I am in a good party, with a good tank, back up, and mages, my subjob won't be a problem. Drg/Mnk will preform just as good as a Drg/War can. And I'm pretty sure I could simply take 30 minutes making a party instead of waiting for hours for a pt.

'cause I certainly won't nor will I join one started by a DRG/mnk. I think the people who replied would do the same.

No, I listen, i've read what you guys have said, and i appreciate the response to the post and those of you who have those who have taken time to debate with me. However, my point still stands; /mnk at those levels shouldn't be an issue. I understand that if there are no other meeles out there, and i'm /mnk this could be a problem.

But in the right pt set up, /mnk will do fine. And no one has given me any reason why it won't.

You're asking us why elephants can't fly. We've told you that if you want something that flies, you should look at birds. What more do you want? DRG/MNK sucks. There's no other words for it. No visible benefits above any other subjob, and leaves a terrible impression that you care more about being "unique" than "good". That's not a good recommendation for a party member.

If you're only expected to be DD, sure /mnk is fine. But realize you're about just barely more attractive than a person without a sub.

You think there is no issue with being 'pure DD', but there is. PTs in valkurum, unless you're lucky--really suck most of the time. You’re not going to get invited into the good PT you’re expecting, and anyone that’s experienced will not accept an invite into a PT started by a drg/mnk. Most of us know this by firsthand experience... painful firsthand experience, and try to avoid repeating it. However, you are free to do what you want. Who knows, maybe you'll get into a forgiving PT and exp as drg/mnk, only to look back 20-30 levels later and laugh. I was pretty gimp the first time I played.

We're just trying to tell you not to repeat the mistakes that we, and others have made before.

By subbing monk, you will only carry a small load for the PT, unlike drg/war with the capacity to backup tank which can shoulder more responsibility. Backup tanking saves lives, and frustration--many people will just drop from a PT if they die, or the PT wipes, which means back to seeking again. /war sub can help prevent this, and in addition post 30, is considered the best offensive sub for just about every melee.

Or a drg/whm which can provide emergency cures should the mages run out of MP. Goblins and flies will put the hurt on a wyvern, but crabs and pugs aren't so bad. Healing breath is incredibly efficient if you can use it--or just straight cure.

In fact I highly advise you to carry stack of pebbles since people are so damn inept at low levels, they forget to bring pulling tools. Even extra stacks of food for others is highly recommended since many newbies don't know the value they provide in increased exp (if they can afford it in the first place). Pick up some selbina milk at the NPC in selbina for a quick HP regen to alleviate some strain on the mage's mp.

Thats asking a lot from a pt in dunes. Especially one that will invite a drg/mnk.

Its apparent that you are only looking for feedback that will tell you why its good to sub mnk. If you want to do it, then do it. Noone is telling you that you cant. What we are telling you is that, hands down, /war is a better option. You dont want to see that and only want to hear that you are making a good decision. In truth, it is not. When worse comes to worse, one provoke can save a lot of lives. Sometimes bad things happen and a 2nd backup tank is needed. Your first question was whether or not /mnk was a good idea. You were told it wasnt. You then asked for reasons why. Those reasons were given and you dismissed them as either false or unimportant. People have told you that /war is best for your pt and you dont think so. If you still feel this way, then go lvl your drg/mnk. Its abundantly obvious you dont really care if ppl dont like it and you said yourself you just want to be different for different's sake. This usually isnt a good idea, but its one you've already made.
My point is: you came here to ask people's opinions on a potential sub. People told you why it was a bad idea and you told them they were being elitist. If you dont want people's honest opinions, then dont ask them for it.
