Question about DRG...

I am a complete noob when it comes to DRG and know nothing whatsoever about them.
I was thinking of making DRG my main when I become the level to get the job, and wasn't sure of a few things.
One of the things I am unsure of is if you can name your dragon, people in the game have told me different things. Another thing is do you get different dragons throughout the game?
The last thing I am unsure of is whether the dragon is always flying next to you, or you command it to appear etc.
Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

You choose your wyvern's name from a set list. You have the same wyvern for the entire game. Your 2-hour ability summons your wyvern and you have a dismiss command.

It is possible to summon you're Wyvern more than every 2 hours though. If you dismiss it when it is on full health the timer is reset so you can re-summon it. Useful for fight you know it could die in.

The Wyvern's breath and certain ablities it gets changes depending on the subjob you have on. 2-hr calls the wyvern, dismiss releases it will reset 2-hr counter back to 0 only if the wyvern is at 100% HP 99% will not work. You will loose your wyvern if you get on a chocobo while it's out (part of the reason believed for the dismiss command) and will have to wait the counter out for the wyvern again.

When you finish the DRG quest you get to select from a list of names for the dragon. The name can then be changed by exchanging some gil to the right NPC who will provide another list of names.

Make sure you use the <pethpp> before you dismiss your Wyvern. I dismissed mine once, not realizing it was about about 99%. Had to wait freak'n 2hrs for her assistance again. That was not fun.

no have to wait 2h for your wyvern is not a good thing as its a major part of the dragoon job.

and you find that the wyvern will save your ass alot in fights aswell

Well, I am now a Lv20DRG/Lv10WAR, I've decided to make it my main job as I completely love this job. Thanks for your help!
