I've been leveling White Mage sub so I can solo with DRG and have another sub available. Wow, I thought leveling Black Mage to 18 was bad, I just can't stand White Mage. It must be because I'm so use to melee. Can I get some words of encouragement before I kill myself out of hatred.

there really are no words of encouragement and most will offer very little sympathy since nearly everyone who plays ffxi will have leveled whm some.
personally, i offer little sympathy for your whm leveling efforts. i got whm to 37 and it wasn't like i put forth some kind of grand effort to do so. and i have had my fair sure of terrible parties while i was leveling it.
if you want to use whm as a sub, buckle down, bite your lip, and get to it. there's no point in complaining. if you think you can't handle it then don't do it.
if you think rdm will be better and easier to level, then you're wrong, pre level 32, rdm is not much better off than whm.

It's not just you everyone gets a hard time leveling white mage espcially the lvl 9 to lvl 10 phase. My taru friend actually subbed /mnk so he can get more hp. He got whm to 10 in one day. WHM can be exciting at times.Blm.75 - Whm.56 - Mnk.58 - Rdm.48 - Nin.37 - War.37 - Drk.37

I am also leveling my white mage up (as well as getting my Af helm at the same time) level 15 so far.
Only advice I can give is if your not aware of it, the f keys target players in your party. I can see tabbing make the job a living hell, but your probally knew this already.
Good luck and keep at it, nothing more satisfying then seeing your wyvern heal breath

Hey Skygto, I know how ya feel. I got drg to 63 with war. subbed purely through partying, never touching mage (lol, talk about one big miracle), then I kinda got bored and wanted to try a new style. Got whm to 10... then stopped lvling it, cause I knew I'd have to hit valk again, and as whm, you can't just leave the room for a sec to check out the tv, lol, as opposed to being a DD in which you only smack the mob and wait for your job ability timers to be ready.
Anywho, yeah, i guess there is a bit of a mental block for some (not all) DDs to take up mage. I eventually got whm to 10, mostly by subbing war. and using a hammer. I subbed that and messed around in Upper Delk.'s tower, tried HB3 a few times... and then i thought, "Hey, I NEED to lvl whm!" .... and to this day, it's still lvl. 10. And so is my blm. lol... yeah, I still got a pretty bad mental block preventing me from going to mage.Comment

Of all mage jobs, WHM is the hardest for me too. My LS was doing a weekly Eco-Warrior, so I would take the Dragon Chronicles, run to the moghouse, and change to WHM to use it. I think I'm 2 chronicles away from level 10.
What I actually enjoyed was playing BRD. Granted, I can't use heal breath on party members, and it triggers lower, but for Solo I love it. I can endlessly sing threnodies for free HP. And since there's no MP involved I have no downtime. Well, unless I fight something harder than I can actually take.4 out of 3 people have a problem with fractions. . .Comment

My WHM deleveled weeks ago and it 600 to 37. I'm thinking of putting him in Ballista cuz I don't want to XP with it ><

I leveled my MNK for 2 whole levels just on 30 cap Ballistas. Funny thing to try would be standing at your Rook your team is sitting at and seeing if you can Tele-wherever some of them in the mayhem and them not noticing youre casting it.

I melee in Valkrum Dunes just cause I can. I dont even care that the Goblins/Lizards have AoE damage. Do not follow societys wishes!! Melee if you want!! Dont be their cure slave!!
Just kidding, melee only on crabs please. And, please, for the love of god, heal!

WHM is like other jobs in that if you like it, you'll stick with it, and if you dont have the capacity to be a mage, no prob. I know that personally, as a RDM at heart, switching to lvl BLM and WHM subs isnt really a problem for me. What would be a problem is leveling my gimp melee jobs ^^ (i want to be able to non-gimply use Vorpal Blade soooo bad, but i dont want to lvl WAR DRK or PLD for a variety of reasons)
So dont beat yourself up over not having a properly leveled WHM job, when to get to end-game, DRG dont need anything outside of WAR

There will be times when you will help other people, camp NMs, do quests. I remember being in Upper Delfkutts Tower going after Enkleados (0/5 ¬.¬) when I targetted Pallas upstairs.
So I got a few of my linkshell friends together, PT set up was... DRK, DRG (moi), NIN, RDM, BRD.
Unfortunatly the Ninjas Utsuemi (cant spell it heh) was down when Pallas decided to do a extremely nasty WS, resulting in tank death. So now we have a DRK, DRG, BRD and RDM left alive.
I told the BRD to cast mages ballad and the RDM to cast refresh on me (unlimited MP pretty much mwhaha) and told the DRK to tank it.
To put it shortly, Heal Breath III saved the PTs arse. I *was* the healer by just using dia when the DRK was on lowish HP curing for about 220hp each time.
PT was impressed about it, and till this day I taunt my DRK friend how the flying rat saved him.

You must be simply angry with the gameplay. Whm is byfar the best sub to take a couple levels just because it is so easy to do so. Your always needed in a party all your job is to play the job right and make sure people are alive.
At higher levels it may be a bit more complicated but if your only going to level 30 or less then it shouldnt be a long run at all. Could most likely get to the jungle in a weeks time if that.Comment
