Ok, so I've been leveling WHM and am now level 17. I now realize I'm not very fond of mage jobs. I ultimately want to be a DRG. What do you think is the best route to get there now? Keep with WHM till I am level and complete the quest? Or start leveling WAR, THF or MNK? Thanks for the help...

you will use war sub, thf sub, an sam sub. an even whm on rare occasions. so you decide. cause eventually your gonna have to lvl them anyways.
Nin75, Bst75. Drk61, War61, Rdm40, All other jobs are 37. All 3 starting city missions completed. All Zilart missions completed. All CoP missions completed. TouA completed.

if you want my real advice, dont play drg.
but if you really want to, for PT id suggest WAR sub, and a mage sub of some kind ( RDM WHM or BLM ). in my opinion, if you have a drg in PT they should be SC starter / dmg over time, and WAR SJ is infinitely better for that.

As you only got to 17 I assume you don't have unlocked subjob yet.
1) MNK to 18, get subjob.
2) WAR/MNK to 3o, get DRG job.
3) DRG for teh win.
Gives you a good impression of the game mechanics, you get to see more sides of the game job wise, and you get to make some cash as you only buy gear wich is resellable as well as enemy drops and crystals.I quit. :O

seeing your Whm is already 17 I would suggest stick to it just a little more... get to 20, and get chocobo+subjob asap. they will make your life much easier.
Keep in mind tho. The PT invites you're getting as Whm will all gone once you switch to Drg. So prepare to lead your own group, and don't give up searching for a rare "whm" to pop when you're making PT :sweat:There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,

Since you're already 17 on whm, I'd suggest that you go ahead and level it to at least 25. This gives you access to raise, but more importantly you get access to sneak/invis. Later on when you're doing AF, missions, quests, etc, this will be invaluable. You'll also be able to sub it to drg for healing breath, which can be very handy sometimes. I got 60 on drg the other day, and I have yet to sub anything but war in exp parties. I'd say thf and sam are both optional subjobs, and pretty useless pre-60, so I wouldn't worry about them for a while.
You might also want to consider taking whm all the way to 30 to open your advanced jobs. I know that might seem like a long time, but 1-30 is really nothing compared to the exp required at higher levels. Then you could level drg and war pretty much at the same time. By that I mean, level war to 10, then drg to 10, replace your gear, level war to 16 (bone armor), then drg to 16, replace gear... etc etc. Looking back, if I had it to do over again, I think this is how I would do it.
Edit: btw if you really hate the idea of leveling mnk, no one at lower levels will care if you go as war/drg for a while as long as your gear is up to date and you use food. In any case, be prepared to make your own parties - as a drg its a skill you will need to master.74 DRG/ 69 RNG/ 62 RDM/ 51 NIN /50 SAM

Any good player will recognize the usefulness of a Dragoon, but there's always things a party must remember. When fighting goblins or anything else with a rough AE skill the Pld or Drk will need to be paying attention to attempt to stun it to avoid killing the Wyvern. Skillchains should never be at the end of a fight to make sure you get as much damage out of the Wyvern's delayed breath attack as possible. There's nothing more painful than seeing a Wyvern stuck in the WS animation after a battle.
I also understand that a Wyvern can magic burst if it does the correct breath attack?

Yes it can, but the drg has to close the skillchain for the wyvern to MB in the correct timeframe. The extra MB damage is surprisingly good for lower levels, but trails off a bit later in the game. More important for breath damage is the correct element, which the AF helmet helps obtain.
