  • Too much accuracy?

I am currently using the following to boost accuracy:

    Sniper's Ring (x2)
    Life Belt
    Merman's Gorget

Over the next few levels I will be adding:

    Assault Earring
    Grand Knight's Lance

I have heard it said (and seen evidence) that accuracy is the most important stat for a melee (and DRG in particular), but I am starting to wonder if there comes a point of diminishing return.

The obvious assumption is that if you are missing you need to increase accuracy and I agree with that. However, I find myself considering the possibility that misses will occur a certain percentage of the time regardless of what your DEX and ACC are. As that point approaches, asdding more and more ACC achieves less and less in terms of hit/miss ratio.

Any thoughts on this? Should I maintain the ACC items I have, exchange some to boost stats like STR, or continue to increase ACC (I really don't want to have to buy a Scorpion Harness, Spectacles, etc :p).

I've wondered about this myself as well. Once you have Acc+35, and you can't seem to see a difference between Acc+25 and Acc+35. Same thing goes with RngAcc.

At what point do we change what side of the exquation we're padding. At Acc+25 do we pump up our DEX? Or at RngAcc+25 do we then pump up our AGI.

I'm Elvaan, and we all know Elvaan have the world's worst DEX and AGI stats. Leveling RNG along side a Galkan RNG I found the Galka was hititng far more often then I was. At the time I had RngAcc+22, the Galkan had RngAcc+15, but still landed far more shots then I was. I asked them what their AGI was, and it was 4 or 5 points higher then mine. Made me wonder if I should drop 6 RngAcc and tack on AGI+4 and would I then land more, or the same amount of shots?

So is DEX+10 & Acc+20 equal or greater than Acc+35? Same to be said about AGI+10 & RngAcc+30 as opposed to RngAcc+55?

There is a point where your accuracy is so high in comparison to what you're fighting that adding more acc will not make a difference. You can see this easily on most 'too weak' mobs.

However, you will never reach this point on xp mobs no matter what you do. Even with all the +acc available in the game, you will still find yourself missing more than you'd like. With 281 scythe skill and over 60 accuracy bonus, I still miss on IT mobs enough that I wouldn't mind having a little more acc.

Ok, but what what if you could get +80 accuracy? Would that make a difference or would you be better off trading some acc for attack? Let's say you exchange some of your acc for attack? Would +50 acc and more +attack be better or +100 acc and no added attack? Yes you will always want more +acc, but does it really make a difference?

I know you can never have 100% Accuracy on an EXP mob. But I was hoping somebody would have done some tests. What point does adding DEX out weigh adding Acc+.

Perhaps some day I'll actually test this out. Play with various equipment, and eat DEX+ food to see if more DEX makes a noticable difference under the Acc+. Then again, perhaps somebody's already done this, and I'm just not doing a very good job of searching for it.

You might wanna try +skill items too. Probably depends on the situation also and what support jobs you have in your party to help you hit more. Wouldnt hurt to increase your dex or str over accuracy if you have a brd and a smn in your party or maybe some other stat you usually neglect for accuracy.

Although personally I believe there may be a point of diminishing returns for evasion just like there is with defense... if you compare accuracy with attack, it's not the same. There is no "diminishing returns" for attack because it is a logarithmic function, until you hit the cap.

As for hard data... take a look at some of the logs I've saved.
                  http://www.saiyajin20.svhosting.net/parse.html

My semi-static includes Nsxtasy, a very good Taru RNG. We have almost identical equipment when it comes to accuracy except:
                  1) He inherently has more AGI than me since he's Taru and I'm Galka. I can't remember specific numbers, but it's probably around 5 more.
                  2) I have hawker+1 and peacock charm... this effectively gives me about 1 more AGI (negated by his racial advantage) and 6 more rng accuracy.

Most of the increased damage I have results from the fact I use e-bow and he sometimes doesn't... but that's not a factor in accuracy since e-bow and warbow+1 have the same rng acc bonus. Plus our ammo has the same rng acc bonus (demon arrow vs scorp arrows).

All in all, I probably have a total of:
                  +35 RNG ACC from job traits (acc up 1, 2, 3 = 10+12+13)
                  +7+12 (francisca + hawker+1)
                  +10 (peacock)
                  +7 (bow+ammo)
                  +16 (rings)
                  +10 (AF body)
                  +2 (Noct+1 gloves)
= +99 RNG ACC, not factoring AGI bonuses.

He has +93 RNG ACC, not factoring AGI bonuses.

I think we satisfy the condition of "high acc bonus" since melees will never achieve this much acc bonus. Note also he has more AGI than me.. I'm not going to list all the +AGI gear we have, but although I have some extra AGI bonus from genin and hawker+1 that he doesn't have (just +2), that's negated by his AF boots compared to striders (+2 agi) and inherent racial AGI difference.

As can be seen from our PT parses, my RNG hit% still is 3-5% higher than his. 6 RNG ACC for 3-5% hit%? Sounds good to me.

I also don't believe 2 AGI = 1 RNG ACC like some people state, and I know many high level RNG don't believe this either. If this was the case, we'd have almost identical RNG ACC, yet I'm still obtaining a greater hitrate.

Personally I don't believe there is any "diminishing returns" nor a cap for accuracy, at least if it functions like ranged accuracy. The more the better!
I believe in karma. Anyone I treat badly probably deserved it.

2 or more rangers in a party will do that midg against enemies weak to ranged attacks and anything.
