Pros: Past 60 you can now pull every 5 minutes! DRG pulling without Flee = Dead DRG. TH1. Yeah whatever just use it for farming... /WAR for life.
Cons: You get a 1.5 multiplier from SA and like no extra damage multiplier from TA. Added DEX and AGI will not result in stronger SA TAs like with THF main. You lose overall damage, Double Attack, Berserk and Defender (Yes. I use Defender when lining up for SA TA onto a PLD... Why? Because I have less defense than a WHM... Also saves mages a bit of MP since they don't have to pump out like 2 Cure Vs to keep my ass up while THF takes their sweet ass time tricking the tank.) that you would have from /WAR.
Have fun...-_-

I actually have tried out both, and I personally would say that drg/thf is best, but ONLY until 50, when you inherit double hit. If you dont feel like leveling both war and thf you dont have to, if you're only going to go with one subjob for drg I would go war, cuz that will last you from 1-75(not as good as /thf pre 50), personally I like the additional dex, although it is little, and SA is very accurate and with SA double thrust at my level I do about 250 or so[Blm 75] [Mnk 72] [Drg 64] [Brd 41] [War 37] [Whm 37] [Rdm 37] [Sam 28] [Smn 26] [Thf 25] [Blu 12] [Nin 10] [Pld 9] [Bst 8] [Rng 8] [Pup 3] [Cor 1] [Drk 1] Rank 10 San D'oria

At the same time you get SA you get Berserk. IMO Berserk is better than SA because SA is only once a minute while Berserk is on 3/5 of the entire time. A SA Double Thrust is better than a Berserked Double Thrust but it certainly does not make up for the 25% less atk you get on the rest of your attacks. No real reason for a DRG to every choose /THF over /WAR since greater damage is king however you go about getting it.

well like I said ive had personal experience with both and I dont notice a much higher boost in my attack with berserk anyways..and SA I can pull off on average 2 sometimes 3 times a battle, and with my polearm gaining fast TP I can pull off SA double thrust often, so I'd say to be /thf until 50, when double hit deffinitely triumphs over flee..[Blm 75] [Mnk 72] [Drg 64] [Brd 41] [War 37] [Whm 37] [Rdm 37] [Sam 28] [Smn 26] [Thf 25] [Blu 12] [Nin 10] [Pld 9] [Bst 8] [Rng 8] [Pup 3] [Cor 1] [Drk 1] Rank 10 San D'oria

I get 3 when i do SA before the battle, so on average i get about 2 in, and normally i have a sam or thf in the pt in which case we do double thrust to viper bite, or double thrust to tachi enpi, and when im not in the sc double thrust is the best ws i can do solo[Blm 75] [Mnk 72] [Drg 64] [Brd 41] [War 37] [Whm 37] [Rdm 37] [Sam 28] [Smn 26] [Thf 25] [Blu 12] [Nin 10] [Pld 9] [Bst 8] [Rng 8] [Pup 3] [Cor 1] [Drk 1] Rank 10 San D'oria

I'll agree that drg/thf all the way is better than drg/war until lvl 50. I had lvled up sam, thf and war all before tp nerf update, with full intention of subbing war>30 thf >50 war>60 sam>75. but since the update sam sub is only good for BCNMs, and building tp to do Spirit's Within for a lot of HNMs. I love war sub for exping, do the most damage over time and damage total. Thf sub is great for lesser HNMs (Roc, Serket, Simurgh, etc.) because most of them do hate clear(adjust) abilities where if you pull hate you're dead. So Sa/ta WS(Skillchain) works nice on them.Longheart

Okay, don't take this as a flame, but if this is how you think, why are you even posting in this thread?
The original poster asked for opinions and advice concerning a certain subjob combo.
The subsequent posters responded with intelligent information and advice and without resorting to flame.
Then you come in and bring the whole "anti-cookie-cutter" issue.
Obviously if the original poster wanted to just have fun for him and do whatever he would not have asked the question and started this thread.
Onto more relevant matters, I agree that at lower-mid levels, Berserk doesn't make a *terrible* amount of difference. But realize as you level higher and your base ATK grows, so will the amount of ATK you gain from Berserk (it is based on a percentage boost after all).
IMO, after 50, no melee job/thf is better than melee job/war due to Zerk and Double Attack (other than WAR obviously). The guaranteed critical of SA won't outdamage the aforementioned WAR bonuses from my experience.
The only exception is DRK/THF 65+. Even at 60 DRK/THF isn't really viable since SA only applies to the first hit of multi hit WS's... however, Cross Reaper is only 2 hits and Spinning Slash is only 1 hit, so SA buffs those WS up goooooooood... DRK/WAR does around 6-700 with a Zerked CR/SS, while a SATA CR/SS will do 900-1k+. This slightly makes up for the lower total DPS (without zerk'ed regular hits 3/5 of the time and no double attack) but also useful for 1) hate management and 2) the way lvl 3 skillchains work (the bonuses can do as much as the ending WS closer itself or even 2x as much).
DRG/THF 65+? Hmm.. Wheeling Thrust is horrible damage as you all know, so maybe you do 150-200 without SA and 250-350 with it? Riiiiiiiiight.. that's not worth it, nor is the resulting added skillchain bonus.
BUT! Do you players recall that Spinning Slash was a POS WS as well half a year ago or so? I remember the patch when SS was "enhanced" and bam, you have the monster WS that exists now, where a PLD (myself) can use it on IT++ and do 600 damage...
If WT is enhanced as much as SS, I believe DRG/THF will become viable again. WT is 1 hit right, which means that SATA WT should do a buttload of damage (even if 2 hits the added damage will be acceptable, much like Cross Reaper). Actually, who needs TA? With DRG/THF and if WT is as strong as SS, just SA+WT to end Light... maybe Dragon Kick -> SA+WT or even SA+SS -> SA+WT... after all, TA doesn't add damage for subbed THF since AGI modifier isn't applied, it just redirects the hate. So now you do a 800-900 damage WS closer and 500-1500 added skillchain bonus. Oh crap you got hate...... oh wait, you're a dragoon, jump it off!
Yes yes, this is all speculation, because none of us knows just how "enhanced" WT will become. The only precedent I can recall, however, is Spinning Slash...... and if WT is similar, I believe we'll see more DRG/THF 65+ after the upcoming patch.I believe in karma. Anyone I treat badly probably deserved it.

-_-;
With not only the high population of drk/thf, but soon to be drg/thf as well, there is just no love for thf/xxx...
On a less relevent note, drk can SA Sickle Moon (a 1 hitter) for about 500-600 dmg right at lvl 60 which does similar damage to SA Guillotine but is distortion compatable. Dark can use thf sub before 65/66; not great, but it's useable.
