Taru DRG/WHM?

  • Taru DRG/WHM?

    How effective is a taru dragoon. I wanted to be a paladin but im not sure if I want to tank all the time. At least if i was an attacker I could have fun. Would DRG/WHM be the best combo for a Taru for more mp=more casting. Wouldnt that make me a support attacker and support healer. I think i like that idea+i seen pix of Cobbi and he looks so cute in Dragoon AF. So help me out does DRG/WHM Taru=Support Attacker and healer and what would my main job be? Attacking?Healing?
    Then I thought DRG/THF since Taru already get super dex so why not improve it. Maybe i should go DRG/WAR/WHM/THF/RDM lvling all of them might improve my party chances and i would be playing for a damn long time.
    So i either want to be DRG//THF or DRG/WHM which one would be the best for Taru?
    Also does anyone know what Tobbi was? DRG/???

    Well one problem with any melee main/caster sub is you loose TP when healing to recover MP. It's kind of counter-productive.

      then i said drg/thf for a taru.Any info on that?

        With the Dragoon, you have to sit to heal your wyveryn anyways, so you inevitably lose TP, and regain your mp. I'm kind of enjoying the combo. TP comes back really quick too, with 10 tp per hit, resting isn't so bad.

          To answer you're question, I have heard that Taru DRGs have a problem with DEX, if I remember correctly. I have also heard DRG/WHM isnt good unless you plan to solo a lot.

          Just my two cents.
          I currently cannot decide if I should stick with RDM or play BLM.

            bear in mind that as a taru you will be comparatively weaker at the melee jobs than the other races until you get access to items that will help smooth out the curve.

            honestly i would consider deleting and recreating as a race more suitable for the profession unless you are prepared to suffer.

            If you really must go on as a taru , i would recommend you play a caster to at least 35 and then use the funds from that career to help make your life easier as you bring up your dragoon.

            also you have to realize that the dragoon is primarily a melee damage dealer, with the potential for a healing breath tacked on as almost an after thought and almost completely useless in group situations until you get the breath focus AF armour.

            even with items you will be behind the similarly equipped but more melee oriented dragoon variants.

            you wont be able to back up heal at all because subbing whm you will have next to no mana most of the time. this is because you dont get the racial stat bonus from subjobs. you only get the jobs lvl up hp/mana which even as a taru will hardly be 5-9 points per lvl.

            at best you will be the one casting protectra and a few status cures now and again, with the sporadic debuff thrown inbetween. when you hit lvl 42 with drg it improves slightly as you can downtime heal better with regen. and even later you get reraise, self buffs and the passive hp regen which will , if nothing else help with soloing.

            so as you may gather the DRG/whm is a very selfish incarnation of the dragoon. even with the healing breath you benefit yourself more than any party you might come across as a few regens and debuffs tossed now again is really insignificant compared to the damage you would be dealing as a focused melee not only with the melee skills but with the dragon breath as well.

              It depends on why you're choosing these things. If you're choosing taru because of the extra mp, then don't. your main spell as a drg/mage will be whatever one costs the least amount of MP.

              If you're doing it just because you want to be a taru dragoon, go for it taru's rock, but sub something that will add to your power since taru is probably the only race worse than elvaan stat-wise for dragoon.

              Really though, a drg/whm is something I'd do when you were solo'ing, keep war or thf for pt's and do the WHM thing when you're solo'ing. Sonova is right, when you choose a bad support job for PT's, you not only hurt yourself, you hurt those you pt with.

              I still think taru melee pwns though, I can't wait to see some taru dragoon in pvp lol

                The thing is, he wan't asking if Tarutaru sucked, he was asking about the job. Everyone knows what race is good for what, but some of us like a race enough to play with ANY job, as stats aren't entirely important, expecialy when you have a linkshell full of friends to party with every now and then.

                I personaly, will end up as a DRG / THF and I will like it, because I like the style of combat. I would also like to know some more about the combo though, so please post your opinions and not that of the race.

                  The STR and DEX problem can be fixed with stat upping items, but i dont suggest DRG/THF until lvl 30 becuase then you get Sneak Attack and until then the WAR sub will give some extra STR boosts... Thats what i plan to do as well, DRG/WAR now as you can see to DRG/THF at 30 to DRG/SAM at 60
