I, personally, have seen a large number of samurai, rangers, and warriors that could not compare to the damage output ive done in the past week. Ive been drg/thf ever since lv 30 and never once has anyone complained about me. With SA Double Thrust i do 200+ damage to crawlers in CN, and outdamage the SAM every time. I use Meat Jerky because its cheap and it works. I have battle gloves... yes those... at lv 37 and they are wonderful. 2 balance rings and 2 Beetle+1 earrings make DRG/THF all the worthwhile. Spike necklace helps too. My average damage with DRG at 37 is about 55 to Crawlers. The rangers back when i was lv 25, kept using crossbows and only dealt maybe 30-40 damage while i was whooping the mandies with 50+ dmg. DRG should never be thought as a bad DD. I for one do equal damage with my Friend Sangheilli, DRK 36, when we use different foods. His attack maybe 175 ave without everything, and mine about 150, but some how we output nearly the same damage. I can only assume that people are propelled by the community to say DRG suck... I havent played drg before the Penta Thrust Nerf, but even with that, DRG do way more damage than a petty samurai for the simple fact that... DRG with the right gear, gains TP faster than most jobs. i get about 12-14 tp per hit, and i hit almost every time, thats 100+ tp in 30 seconds just about. Delay on Meditate is 180 seconds, and Samurai gain more TP per hit than DRG do over time because of their Store TP traits. The only reason DRGs gain extra TP is because of Jumps, but jumps don't give 100+TP per 3 minutes. You get 2 jumps and one high jump in that same time frame, which, if you land all 3 (not guaranteed), equates to around 36-50 TP depending on gear, weapons, etc.

DRGs do gain more TP over time than some melees (DRK, sometimes WAR) in XP situations, but more than a level 30+ Samurai? Not a prayer.

Battles in crawler's nest last about 3 minutes max. I've pulled off 2 SA Double thrusts before, thats about 500 dmg at lv 37. The tank has trouble keeping hate. I high jump pull, do SA Double thrust, then i become tank. Any DD that can pull hate off of a PLD and/or war/nin is good DD in my book. Pulling hate off of a PLD is very easy with DRG/thf, just pull out SA jump or double thrust, and the hate is yours. In palborough mines, yesterday, me and a lv 54 PLD were farming quads for the key because i had seen the chest, and while we were farming, i couldnt help but notice that no matter what the pld did, he could not take the hate off of me. That is hard to believe even to me, but I am having an extremely good time with DRG and anyone who says DRG sucks just needs to have their opinions shoved right back in their mouth because its best not to say something unless you have seen the way EVERYONE does drg. you can have someone who doesnt know jack about playing DRG and doing everything wrong, or you can have someone who knows when to time everything and be a great damage dealer. DRG, the job itself, is not sucky, its the people who play the class wrong. This is just merely my opinion, and like all opinions, they dont mean a dang thing. If you like DRG, be DRG, if not, dont sit there and call it sucky just because it isnt what you want to be.

Sorry, the 200+ is for Kirin(with good, possible equipment). I didn't clarify that well enough. On normal enemies, it's more like 400-600, even on the gods (excluding Genbu. Everyone does less on Genbu).

And yes, I wouldn't mind taking a DRG to fight Fafnir/Nidhogg. DRG/mage would be handy, if the Wyvern could survive. Considering that you don't want to turn wyrms, DRG is on par with DRKs and SAMs with DoT. Especially since it's dangerous to do any SA attacks, and most LSes I hear about never go behind wyrms at all.

Dragoons do have flexability. They can go all out DD, or they can sub mage and light DD + heal(for non-AoE NMs). Every job can shine somewhere. It's just a matter of the players knowing how to apply it. And don't think I'm saying it's a good idea to use a mass of DRGs for HNMs. That's not a good idea, just like its bad to use a mass of any single job. Even too many RNGs can be a bad thing.

As for the DRG vs SAM in TP gain, SAM wins 100% of the time with WAR sub. Meditate is what keeps them ahead most of the time with THF, or any other, sub. I have seen DRGs out TP SAM/THF when their Meditate is down, and be very close behind when meditate is up.

i dont know but, evrey pt with dragon's i got bad exp... and we cant chain 5 , and i avoid exp with dragon on my rng because all dragon's ws eww weak and no good renkei with my rng, aslo dont like pt with dragon's on my blm .

dragon's gimp because all ws weak and all job's do better than dragon's so why invite DRG to exp pt? when there's SAM/MNK/WAR/THF/DRK/RNG seeking ?

For SC's in EXP parties at 71+ go with Impulse Drive >> Slug Shot. Works great.


Just to pop out some numbers here:
500-650 SA+Wheeling Thrust on the main gods (except Genbu of course)
250-300 Wheeling Thrust to Kirin with acc gear and /SAM. Only missed 2 WS's from the last 3 Kirins.
650-750 SA+wheeling to Haku

We can do fine end game. Were not the best, but not the worst. People seem to have this leetism disease. They lose sight of what the game is all about. I could go on and on with screenshots and parsers defending the job, but I'm not. This is a game, and were all here to have fun. As long as you know what the heck your going and pick the right gear/sub, any job will work. I participate in sky, I fight gods, I meele Kirin, big deal. We work out SC's and actually do our job as meele. Back in the day, lots of people would meele Kirin. Heck, I remember reading about how to get SA+WSs off on the run. Now it's "OMG, you meele Kirin!??" People are becomming stupid in this game. "Toss more RNG's at it till it dies." "I'm a WHM and I can't Cure. NIN onry." People are just being lazy. It seems like they don't even want to play the game anymore, they just want to be the best. Have all the best gear and be 75. Just think of how many people rush to 75 and want to get uber items and become rich from HNMs. Now think of how many of them quit when they got to 75 and found it wasn't what they though. I really don't know why some people "play" this game anymore. They just want to kill everything so fast and not enjoy anything.

It isn't a question of elitism. The entire discussion revolves around how useful DRG is at various levels. I've already posted that I think DRG are fine in XP parties at most levels up through 65.

At level 75, DRG are still acceptable in XP parties if you're fighting stuff that is weak to piercing damage (like the above screenshotted Decorative Weapons), but if you're talking about getting merit points, rangers still outdamage DRG, and chain higher with less downtime (this last bit is important at 75 if you're after merit points - chain #7 is good, but there's ways to go way beyond if you know what you're doing).

While I love having fun as much as anyone, part of having that fun involves budgeting my play time to include as much interesting stuff as I can. As to that, XP/limit grinding is one of the least enjoyable activities in the game most of the time, so finding ways to spice it up by attempting to do stuff like Chain #10+++ is important in that sense. Considering most of my friends these days have at least 2-3 jobs at level 75, there's really not much of any reason to do merit points with a dragoon when there's a handful of rangers online who can go.

Oh, and at Fafnir, Hurricane Wing does around 500 damage per activation against NPCs. Nidhogg is somewhat higher, been a while since I actually took note of it, but NPC damage from HW at Nidhogg probably clocks in at around 800. No way to keep your wyvern alive under those conditions.

All bias aside here is the bottom line as I see it:

Without the use of shadows, DRG is arguably the best solo melee end-game.

If the mob you are fighting lives for a decent amount of time DRG's DoT is often times on par with nearly any other melee class. However if mobs die extremely fast, the delay on their weapon (much like DRK) kills their numbers compared to duel weilding melee, SAM and RNG.

The passive ACC up helps a lot more than most believe.

What hurts DRG is their selection of WSs. This is in no way offense to the pictures Kainhighwind had posted but 1k Damage from a WS that can't even skill chain well isn't too spectacular. Even with the use of sneak attack wheeling thrust is fairly lack luster for HNM purposes. (And to add to the "DRG can't get chain 5?" statement/question. I've chain 19'd at that Decorative Weapon camp with not one, but 2 different DRGs.) So don't be scared you're not gona get EXP if you have a DRG lol.. More times than not, if you're playing with someone who took the time to put up with everyone's bullshit to get DRG to 75, they're gona know how to play the game and play their job well.

DRG can crank out some of the highest numbers of +STR along with WAR and DRK due to equipment selection. This stacked with their high D weapons leads to extremely hard hitting regular hits. And unlike RNG they don't have to pay for each hit.

drg is a damage dealing class and, much like a whm, is realativly party dependant now there is no way that drg/ blm could be a better combo than the all-powerfull drg/sam using this combo via the sam's lvl 30 ability you and your wyvern can preform you very own skill chains and not to mention all polearm-class weapons are available to you.
