Levelling DRK to 37 only

I'll keep this brief.

RDM70 here, currently working on NIN sub (reached 33 this weekend) and well aware that I need to drag DRK up to 37 at some point too (I haven't even unlocked the job yet).

With that in mind, I'd like thoughts on the following proposal for when I finally plop my DRK-hat on:

Completely screw using Scythe and/or Great Sword.

My G.Axe skill is capped for my WAR38, so I'm thinking I'll just use that all the way to 37. I like G.Axe. It's a Good Weapon. I'm aware that G.Axe is not a DRK's weapon-of choice, it being.. what? ..a B-grade for skill? But I'm guessing/hoping/assuming that the acc-penalties for the drop off in weaponskill compared to Scythe/GS will be negligible if I'm only taking the job to 37.

Thoughts? Experiences? Agreeance? Slaps?

Considering that for you, 37 is as high as it'll go, I don't think G.Axe is such a bad idea. It's a solid DD choice. You get great weaponskills at this level range (Unlike Gsword and Scythe) and will be an asset to any party.

That said, I don't know if you're aware of how much time you'll be meleeing as DRK. You'll have enough time to cap a weapon or two as you're leveling. It's really not that hard as DRK especially, since you've got high skill levels in those weapons you described. Of course, if you just hate scythes and greatswords in general - there really isn't much else I can tell you. You probably won't use them on any other job.

Well, the issue isn't so much me looking to avoid having to skill up new weapons in a party as it is more.. me just suspecting that Great Axe will be a better weapon. :O 1-37 anyway.

My main concern is hitting say, level 30, then finding my natural accuracy is too low and missing every other damn swing. I'm not sure at what point a B-rating weapon's problems will start to rear their ugly head. (I'm at work currently so unable to look at the relevant numbers on a stat-calc.)


With regards to using the weapons on other jobs.. Well I suppose I secretly harbour a desire to one take PLD into the upper echelons of the game. Should that ever occur, it would be nice to have Great Sword pre-levelled to a mid-game degree. That on its own though wouldn't be reason enough to take DRK to 37 using GS, assuming Great Axe can perform effectively.


Oh and forgive me, but

I don't think G.Axe isn't such a bad idea.

Well, glad we could get *that* out of our system in a mature and thoughtful manner ...

I just recently leveled Dark Knight to 37, mainly for my Red Mage and soon it will also be an useful subjob for my Ninja. I used a Great Axe up to level 37, and had no problems at all.

Ps.: I'd suggest using Jack-o'-Lantern

Ah, I am filled with comprehension now.

And nah, I wasn't referring to anything Che-esque. Merely humouring myself (and no-one else!) with over-literalness at the observation that your avatar has a redhead also...
