You can Assault for the Chivalrous Chain. Maybe some of the other accessories as well.

I laugh at your 1.135M gil. My price tag?

Assault Earring - Was 1M at the time, and not worth it. Acc+2 isn't worth the gil. Get 2 Spike Earrings cheap and stop complaining.
Haubergeon - 4.75M & worth every penny of it. Fighting side by side w/ a DRK with out it makes you stand out. Big time.
Potent Belt - I skipped this. Life Belt for TP & Vangard Belt for 1 hit WS. Life Belt's cheaper, and meleeing in STR shows minimal returns.
Vassago's Scythe - 1.4M and still great for Lv.60 cap stuff, great until Lv.65.
        C. Chain - Was roughly 150k at the time, but I used points to get mine. If you have a hard time getting Assault points use a Royal Guard Collar. I got a lot of good use out of this. Since we're not SAMs, that Store TP isn't so much a must have.

So in order to get some of the better gear, you need to raise some gil. Goes with out saying for all jobs, but don't complain because it could have been much worse. That 4.75M Hauby make you cringe? Friend of mine spent 13M on his back after the 2005 Mega Gil sale.

At least 3 of those are obtained through Assault. I highly recommend taking the time to do Assault, it's fun, you get items and raise your merc rank at the same time. So that clears up some of that price list, I'm not sure where you get the scythe from that but it looks like it's only that and the hauby you need to save up for: 780k.

My advice: do some BCNMs, Treasure and Tribulations BCNM50 is normally one I choose. Farm like hell. Do assault as often as possible, get the items you want and then keep getting points to buy extra items to sell for gil, I know plenty of people that say it's a great source of income.

All jobs have an expensive time between 50-70 say - whm is one of the last with Noble's Tunic. All jobs are stepping up from the mediocre gear to the decent gear - AF only goes so far! Mages have staves and torques and stuff, melee have hauby or SH, decent weapons etc etc.

We all just had to knuckle down and make money - hell I'm still doing it with 3 75s (next on my target list, Iqgira Lappas).

This isn't really complaining, as he said he's just pointing out prices to others nearing 60 so they are prepared to be paying out a fair bit in the near future, and in my opinion he is asking for advice on how to get the items or possible ways of getting the gil for the items.

It's not like he made a post saying "OMFG prices are so DAMN LAME, that is SO UNFAIR /cry"

Tdh: it sounds to me like you are the one complaining, so older players got screwed over by price drops? Everyone has had it happen to them, or it will happen to them, so I laugh at your price tags and your complaining, they neither helped the poster of this thread or exactly made him feel like he did the right thing to post a polite thread asking for help.

Wording and liberal usages of "!" sure looked like complaining to me. I have all this gear, and never stated I had problems buying it either. No complaints here.

As far as not helping the original poster by posting alternatives, validating the acquiring of afore mentioned items, or attempting to make the poster feel better about spending ~1.2M - I can always remove my suggestions.

Also Chivalrous Chain is only slightly better than an R.G. Collar, which is a lot cheaper. So yeah. Get Haub and Vassago's, everything else is a marginal improvement over the alternative piece.

Back in my days, when MC Hammer shamelessly flaunted his moves across my 70-horizontal-lines-rounded-corner-tv-set, we paid for our gear with a promissory of 3 of our unborn children writ in blood.

But I was no fool when I did get my gear. However, the worth at one point would probably paralyze most newbies and leave them wondering if such a time actually existed.
