  • Cost of the job

I just started playing FFXI a few days ago with a friend I been reading up on this site that he gave me for a while and I come to understand that most of the ppl here are very straight forward. So I have a question, my friend recently gave me 2mil gil for me to do with what I want. I been thinking of trying out drk and drg I was curious with that much gil would I be able to stay as best equiped for my lvl till about 40ish when you start the AF quest? If I go DRK I would want to lvl both GSword and Scythe would it be possible with that much gil or would be be easier and less costly to go with drg?

    Thank you in advance
    Zar

    Re: Cost of the job

Something to point out, you need to take a starting job to lvl 30 before you can unlock either drk or drg. This process alone requires buying gear not only for that said job, but whatever job you sub with it. Much of that 2mil will be used up before you even unlock those jobs

      Re: Cost of the job

Are you asking for weapon/gear alone? Or the jobs as a whole?

Besides weapon and gear, you may also need gil to buy spell, traveling, food, tools, and other minor stuff like Auction House tax...

Thoughout the time, price of gear changes, new gear maybe introduced. There are gears that can only be obtained by quest. Each server's economy is different.

Each person's demand and target is different. There is no fix answer to your question. My suggestion to you is to spend you gil wisely, and try to find you own method for obtaining gil.

Some expenses to consider when leveling your DRK:

        1. Medicines. These include:
        • Silent Oils/Prism Powders
        • Echo Drops (You're half worthless "silenced")
        • Antidotes (Not necessary, but helpful nonetheless)
        2. Food.

        3. Miscellaneous. These can include:
        • Warp Cudgel/Scroll (Don't assume the WHM/BLM will ferry you around after the PT ends, assuming you have at least one of them in your party)
        • Additional gear for swapping (Optional)
        • Two weapons (Mandatory - Gsword and Scythe)
        4. Travel, which can include Teleport fees (If you don't have a porter in PT), chocobo, ferry and airship. Make sure you have at least 25K for travel.

These are daily expenses (Or common occurence expenses) In other words, this is in addition to the expenses you have to deal with when purchasing equipment and weapon and spells.

Something most players either forget or are ignorant of.

          Re: Cost of the job

Its pretty cheap. I've been a DRK since my first WAR job. I've been surviving on my AF armor.. Its a decent job.

2Mil gil for best equips and stay on top of the line? Hmm... you won't make it pass lv30. Most of the money will be spent on luxury equipments for Warrior and Thf sub jobs by the time you reach lv25. Not counting the food cost and additional equipments Drk needs.

On the bright side, after spending a lot of money into getting Warrior to lv30 you can reuse most if not all of the warrior equipments from weapons to armor. Depending on how you use your money you might be able to make it to lv40 with 2mil but after that; you can't stay in tip-top condition without spending a few more mils.

My highest reccomendation is you should seek out several ways to make money. It'd be best if your income can support your food cost (earning about 10k gil an hour is good enough) and other meds. The 2mil gil can be used to buy several things that can be resold after using - this will allow you to last longer. The lv40 is quite an ouch level with the avaiablity of +acc rings. They aren't very cheap and you will need them. Your 2mil gil would be quickly spent into these.

                Re: Cost of the job

save 100k or so for WAR to lv to 30 you don't need the best eqp , save the rest for DRK and you can get more gil by farming .
i think 2 mil is too much to be spent -30

                  Re: Cost of the job

Now if you only spend the 2M on your gear, and you're frugal about it, you may be able to buy ~just~ your gear and be decently equiped. But as Aeni said, there are a lot of other expenses to keep in mind when you're out adventuring.

Now, on the cheap, you could level WAR to Lv.30, reuse most of the gear you bought as somebody already mentioned, and then level DRK to Lv.40. However there are some things that won't quite translate directly for both jobs, and other things in the middle you'll want to do. Things like the Goblin Bag expansions cost gil on top of the food, and medicines mentioned.

Once you hit the late 30's though, you'll start to run into more and more high priced items. Items that will cost you 1M or more by themselves, all while you've already spent a good portion of the 2M gift. So make sure you're farming the whole time to help stretch that 2M out, but that 2M alone isn't going to get you there.

                    Re: Cost of the job

2M lol ... well, luckily for a lot of melees on Hades, Squid Sushi is only 9K a stack. So, no excuse for not affording them, eh?

But in all honesty, back when this person asked for advice, the economy was more inflated than it is now. 2mil can now go a long way. Back when I leveled DRK last year, from 60 to 70, 2mil was spent on food alone. No joke. Then again, I was always partial to Sole Sushi.

I spent roughly 4mil on consumables from 60 to 70, including Maat fight and BCNMs.

Another 5mil or so on gear, but I was fortunate enough to get a Hauberk from a friend. The Haubu I had and the other accessories, however, I had to buy myself. Weapons ... ahahah. Those were godly expensive (Took out a 1.5 mil loan for Balmung and the very next week, someone wanted to pay 5.5 mil for it and begged me for nearly one hour)

Nowadays, getting the gear of last year takes little effort. I'm actually a bit sad, considering the amount of time and trouble I had to go through to obtain them.
