    Re: Abs-TP Discussion

I finally bought my Hauby, so I got to EXP as DRK the other night. So it was my 1st time having it outside of farming.

I'm still adjusting to when to cast it. Every time I went to cast the damn thing, the Puk would use it's TP! So I was basically wasting the MP. (33MP for 8TP when I could have actually hit the damn thing, and gotten 13.5% TP from the hit.)

Another thing I noticed was my Absorb-TPs don't seem to prevent the mob from using TP. I opened a skillchain with Vorpal Scythe, and as then I started casting Absorb-TP. THF fires off Viper Bite, and just as Distoration was finishing, the spell landed. Drawing back 96%TP. Not 2 seconds later the Puk did that annoying knock back TP move.

Thus for, I've found that it helps me keep up with TP and still cast the spells I need to cast for the party. Absorb-AGI, or if I find a mob I'm having problems hitting, it helps me recover. But I'm questioning if it's actually lowering the mobs TP.

Well, if you read the responses above in this thread, people are saying that mob's get TP at a rate of roughly 50-100 per tick depending on who you're asking (Assuming 3 melees and 2 mages pounding it and assuming the mob attacks once or twice every tick)

Unfortunately 96% is a drop in the bucket according to the responses above.

Here's how I think Abs-TP should be used:

      1. About 4 ticks into the fight, use it (You should get a minimum of 25% as long as the mob doesn't use any abilities, which they normally don't at around 90-100% of HP)

      2. Use it if timer is up to "catch up" if you're running into bad luck with TP gain.

      3. Use stun during SC, not Abs-TP! <caveat emptor: save stun if fighting gobs though> If you're closing or opening, stun after the first WS.

In end game, you use it the way a SAM uses Meditate. Even if there's TP mob lying around, better to get the quick 100%, SATA+Spin and go do it again in another minute or so.
