  • How is DRK as a sub?

I don't know much about the DRK job, but am interested in finding out more about it. There are plenty of topics and discussions on what subs are good when DRK as a main - but what is it like as a sub? Are there any crucial abilities that you will miss out on? What sort of benefits does it bring to the table? Have any of you combined DRK as a sub, with a main to any degree of success?

I'd appreciate any info you have.

DRK subbed would mean only one thing -- access to Stun to non-DRK and non-BLM jobs. Beyond that, there's little usefulness in the JAs for most job classes. Souleater is nerfed as a sub (Much like Trick Attack/Sneak Attack for /THF) Even if one is capable to get the most out of the job class, subbing DRK gives no survivablility to any job class out there save maybe main NIN, RDM or PLD. That's because all of the JAs and JTs tend to garner too much enmity and a non-tanking class or damage mitigating class will just take way too much punishment and consume large quantities of MP to make it worth while. The spells are also nerfed as a sub (Aspir, Drain, Abs, etc.) unless the main job using it already have skills pertaining to the particular spell sets, mostly Dark Magic skill.

A lot of people use RDM75/DRK37 to stun-lock Diabolos and prevent him from using his special abilities. RDM probably benefits the most from DRK sub, because all of DRK's magic skills are also native to RDM.

I've used it as a low level WAR (20-24ish) and found it alright for a bit of extra damage, but its nothing you can't get from a MNK, which is better for tanking at those levels.

Other than that, and the RDM/DRK at 75 for stun, there is no need to a DRK sub, but I have been hearing good things about BLU/DRK.

There's a small group of people who consider Nin/Drk using SE + Amanojaku* has a small amount of merit.

But - again that's limited for very specific circumstances.

*the weapon has +1 base damage each 10% health you drop... sooooo...
