  • DRK/THF early on as a Dark Knight?

Hey everyone, new to the Dark Knight territory.
I've had Warrior subbed up until now (lvl 15), but I miss a WHOOOOLE lot. I was hoping the extra DEX of a THF sub would help me out. I know I'll be missing out on some big hits, but damage is no good if I can't hit the damn mob, y'know?

Anyways, just wanted some input on this decision.

One or two DEX won't make a massive difference in your accuracy. I suggest eating rice dumplling for food if you can afford it. Since it has +20% (or maybe 22%) attack, capping at +45 attack, and +5 accuracy.

I'm surprised more people don't sub RNG from 20 to 30. Free +10 acc/ranged acc. Not much reason for melee's to sub anything else if they're not needed for provoke. (Or in WAR's case, boost/utsusemi.)

20-30, /DRG provides an early Attack Bonus and /RNG provides an early Accuracy Bonus, but almost nobody will sub them. WAR provides a few extra STR, Provoke, and Defense Bonus, and somehow is the de facto for most melee 1-75. Go figure.

you lose a lot of utility with /thf imo. subbing wont make a difference to your acc. playing an ace job will always be painful when you miss with a 2h weapon. that's just how it goes for drk. your best bet is food and equips. imo, /thf is best left for 60+.

/thf post 60 onry. Before then War sub is much better for DoT. Thf sub is mainly to make sure you don't get your face raped by your higher damage WSs.

THF sub is completely useless for any job until at least 30.

WAR sub will give alot more versatility til 60, anyway.

yeah, war is best IMO pre60. you can voke if your tank needs help, double attack at 60, defender, and berserk.

at 60, sub thf for SATA guillotine, or war, until 66, where thf sub is almost necessary for SATA spinning slash

Well, the problem there is that DRK already has their own attack bonus trait. Unless you were just suggesting it for non DRK jobs. D:

Re: DRK/THF early on as a Dark Knight?

Double Attack is WAR25, so DRK 50. Defender is the same level.

Back before the food update, I sub'd THF from Lv.30 to Lv.50. I liked the big Slices, I liked not missing WS for Skillchain. But honestly I didn't notice a damn thing when it came to Accuracy. With THF sub, I still pulled hate, and put up good numbers. But if I had to do it all over again, I'd go /WAR from Lv.30 to Lv.56 where I am now. Despite the fact that tanks have a hard time tanking me. (Vs Lesser Colibri last night, I was dropping 115-140 w/ Berserk on VT to IT mobs. Good mobs for EXP, just watch out for their Snatch Morsel. Cost me almost a full stack of Sushi last night in 3.5 hrs.)

At low levels, I still recommend Jack-o'-Lanterns if you're having Acc problems. Rice Dumplings are nice, and can sometimes be expensive. But they have a lotta buffs, and that Acc+5 can help. Though there are times the Acc+10 on the pumpkins have out shined dumplings. Just do your own tests.

I was subbing RNG to just about anything melee >.> Was hitting with 80% accuracy on melee and ranged attacks against ITs and I ate Dhalmel Pies. In lower levels, no one cares really on what you're subbing. And at these low levels, creativity is needed, since you don't have very much of anything to assist you (Unless your party is being PL'd, a common occurence in Dunes, but I never got any PL before)

Ah, DRK get Attack Bonus at 10, too? I thought they got it later.

But yes, the statement was meant to apply to melee in general.
