    DRK is the type of job that can make or break a group, sort of like NIN. A bad DRK can really screw things up, while a good one can help things go smoothly.

    I wouldnt choose DRK right away, you should get more game experience first. DRK walks on the hate line, to play the job effectively, you're going to have to learn how to not fall off.

      I fail to see how MNK is considered Burst Damage. They are the epitomy of DoT, far more than any other job. Yea the occasional WS can do nice damage, but with H2H the lower-damage X Higher number of hits ensures a steady level of damage. That is DoT (to me at least).

          Dark knight is a fun job, but it can be miserable if you don't have enough accuracy equipment, or are elvaan, or both -.-. It's tough to hit without some expensive stuff, while monk can get away with less acc equip and still hit ok. If I were you, I'd play some monk, then maybe a little black mage to skill up your magic some, then try Dark. That way you go into it with some melee and magic experience. As for the whole Burst vs DOT question, i really see Darks as burst. I haven't really had good experiences with /war and Guillotine, they seem to do a lot less then a good Spinning Slash or even Cross Reaper or especially Spiral Hell with my martial scythe ^.^ Then again, I don't have the godly equip most darks at 75 seem to have.

            Indeed, the somewhat odd truth is that Dark Knight takes some subtlety to play well, since you have to balance occasional casting of your spells so they actually have benefit and how and when you use your damage enhancing skills so as to finish a fight more quickly without absorbing thousands of damage in the process from errantly pulling hate off of the tank.

            Lots of accuracy+ gear, and lots of Strength+ gear for your higher end weaponskills is a necessity. Plus, it's good to carry both accuracy and damage food with you (sushi and meat) depending on the situation, so there are a lot of factors to consider.
