I'd recommend NOT choosing just one weapon and sticking with it come hell or high water. Granted, there ARE melee jobs in this game that are generally expected to use only one type of weapon always, but DRK isn't one of them. There's more to weapons than just damage output. Each weapon has its own distinct renkei properties, so some weapons are more valued in certain situations than others. It really does pay to be proficient with multiple weapons.

With that being said, level BOTH Scythe and Great Sword. You won't regret it.

And not to get too much off topic here, but Gix...why did you dual wield an axe & a sword during your Divine Might run? O_O My guess is that you wanted to take advantage of the extra abilities of the NIN sub you had, but if I'd been in your shoes, I still would've used either a Scythe or a Great Sword. Not to criticize your choices, but I still found it rather odd.

Gix needed teh shadows and probably got his hands on some cool toys to play with ...

I personally like using all weapons that I can get my hands on, with the exception of club (although I must test True Strike once I can get club high enough) I think Gaxe is the most underrated weapon that a DRK could equip and even if the only weapons a DRK can get his/her bread n butter WSs in are greatswords and scythes, as UnnamedGalka stated, if you can pull off the desired renkei and the BLM can do his/her best MB, then who's going to complain?

Oh yes, I totally understood his decision to sub NIN for Utsusemi...but as far as practicality is concerned, I'm still left scratching my head over his choice to dual wield a one-handed axe & a one-handed sword. Personally, I'd have probably used a Scythe. Before entering the BC, I'd have donned an Opo-Opo Necklace and slept to 300% TP...then run in, Soul Eater + Last Resort + Guillotine on Ark Angel TT...pop an Icarus Wing, then Guillotine the little bastard again.

But hey, that's just me spouting off my two cents ^_^ ...Gix and his alliance DID win that Divine Might, after all, and he got through it without dying even once...but then again, from studying the video, it didn't look like he was ever in any real danger.

Anyway, yeah, back on topic...DarkSephiroth, I stress this again: please keep both Scythe and Great Sword skilled as best you can...you'll make both yourself and future parties happier if you do.

The video cut out all the nasty parts. After the AA HM blew up I was in danger of dying, and also after AA EV's AoE.

I was using /nin because there were no tanks to TA off of at the time because all of our tanks were used to marathon. I didn't want to waste unnecessary MP by doing too much damage with Spin.
