No, not your usual "Is DRK/NIN good?" topic.

Just came out of a party (33-34) that had a DRK/NIN. He was dual wielding archer knives and using a crossbow w/holy bolts (as well as various other +RACC stuff).

His damage output with the xbow was high enough to regularly steal hate from the tank. Though his Gust Slashes were doing puny single digit damage =P.

With that equipment, probably would have made more sense to go Drk/Rng. <,<

I don't understand how a rank "E" weapon can work that well. It confounds the mind. Or maybe the tank sucks.

at lv34 theres so a pretty small difference in weapon skills, so having +20 acc from archers is enormous, and closes the skill gap very quickly. Another thing, is that it could've been in garlaige, in which case they'd most likely be fight bats, and ranged attacks rip those to shreds ;D

I like the fact that DRK has marksmanship skill. I just think its sad that its only E...

I was thinking about a ranged attack DRK build too, but the E skill is just too much to overcome. While I was raising DRK to 37, I used xbow all the time to pull or contribute additional damage. It turned out to be pretty expensive and I went through bolts fairly quickly, since I missed so much.

DRK/NIN isn't a good choice. Dark Knights are made for huge damage dealing. A scythe, or a great sword would be a lot better because it would cause the most damage to the opponent. Vs dual wielding, Dark Knights won't do as much DMG to the opponent. A Warrior could do more damage with a GS or SCY, than compared to dual wielded daggers. People depend on dark knights to do the most damage. double swords wouldn't cut it.. they need to do huge amounts of damage.

The average DRK I party with at these levels rarely steal hate from the tank unless they LR or SE.

Compared to that, this guy was stealing hate several times per fight.

I didn't do a parse, but I would without a doubt say his damage output exceeded your typical Lv34 scythe or g.sword-wielding DRK.

if he was pulling hate from other ppl then the tank sucked and/or the other dd or mages sucked because there is no way a drk/nin whos a pretend rng can outdamage or gain hate faster than anything else in the pt -_-

Seriously, you really had to have seen it. As people have been pointing out above, E rating isn't terrible enough at these low levels that you can't make up for it with loads of +RACC equipment.

And as I said before, regardless of all other factors, this guy was most definitely putting out a lot more damage than the average scythe/gsword wielding Lv34 DRK.

the average 34 drk would be stupid enough to stack berserk lr and se so therefore it can eat hate from it just from that and not from the dmg it will be dealing :X

Stupidity or just well set up.

Random pts don't do that often, but statics and semi statics do that quite a bit.

Any /nin is welcome if a hate circle is used between melees. seen drg/nin, mnk/nin and other unconventional /nins because in the end, your potentional as a non stop {full attack!} is just as effective if not more then pump up at SC time.

If they are bats, then yes, that's quite a bit of damage of bolts + ja + 120%. And a drk would have somewhat higher defense, and HP then rangers at that point, so they would live a bit longer with that amount of hate.
