  • Darkknight questions

Good afternoon all... just had a question that id like to hear your responses....just made level 51 DarkKnight. when looking for groups or looking for members to start a pt...seems there are alot of Darkknights looking for groups.

Just tryign to figure if/why Darkknights are not desired to be in pts at this level..dont know about all darkknights..but i have plenty of accuracy gear, esp with double attack of warrior sub...sometime i even take hate from tank..just from regular hits..not buffs.

Just trying to decide if im in for a long road...or just not getting on at the right time.

would love any feedback you have.

      ignore the trolls

DRK are pretty good DD. stun is nice, and tractor is very handy sometimes if you dont have a BLM or /BLM around.

Yes the road from 50 to 65 is a long haul for some drks. Frustrating doesn't even begin to describe it at times. But if you love the job, its worth it in the long run. Best advice for you is to keep your Great Sword skilled up if you haven't. So during times of frustration, stop seeking and get into a skill up pt for a break.

Another factor that leads to drk frustration is the fact that there are so many piss poor drks out there. They are only thinking of themselves and their dmg. They don't work well with pt's and they don't take the time to learn how to play the job right. They just play the job to look uber and do uber dmg. In the process, the screw it up for the good ones.

Exactly, when you got a DRK that can't hit or the opposite can't control his damage right then you start to wonder if any other player is any good at it. It just takes 1 really bad experience to change peoples views, sadly it ends up taking like 100 good experiences to change their mind back -.-

People don't invite Dark Knights because so many suck. 95% of the DRK's I've partied with have been horrible. Their normal hits suck, they gain TP hella slow, and then in 1 fight they decide to stack Last Resort, Soul Eater, Berserk and weapon bash at the same time, making the healer's job a nightmare (especially since they're now getting hit for 200+ each time thanks to all those buffs and their shitty armour...).

I have known a few very good DRK's, who do very good damage on both regular hits and WS, gain TP nice and quick, and make full use of their magic (stunning at the right time, using the proper absorb spells, drain/aspir when needed, etc...). I would take a GOOD Drk in any party.

The unfortunate reality though is that these players are few and far between, most DRKs are shitty players, and I only invite ones with good search comments or that I already know...

It's very easy to play Dark Knight "wrong"...

Many people's impressions of Dark Knight come from the yhoator/garlaige levels when dark knights first get souleater, and they use it whenever the timer refreshes, cause they think it helps them, or something...

imho, Dark Knight isn't one of those jobs you want to play if you you're going to be half-assed with it. Unless you're pretty popular in some way, you're not going to be picked over other DD's...

Playing DRK, for me, was quite an experience... even if you're good, chances are, you're going to be passed over for something like a ranger...

i do classify myself as a good dark....i rarely use souleater, except for emergency situations.....as in low mp on healers and we need the mob dead..i usually accompany blood weapon with it...so most of the damge i hit for i get back from the drain... so i lose 15 or 20 hp for the souleater.... right now using warrior sub..i use beserk, last resort for extra hitting power..

i gain tp actually pretty quickly... i have +21 accuracy with my equipment...and have outgained other pt members in tp such as drgs, mnks. etc..

as far as damage goes, i havent seen any melee hit harder on a regular basis than me, excpet i admit rangers are the exception..most good ones.

guess im just in for a long haul... really have loved the job..since the first day i started playing...and always loved cecil in the old FF games...

cant wait to hit for 1000 dmg with SATA + WS..... at lvl 55 have my armor set and sitting with Versagos scythe.....

thank you for all the input

Well, as a previous poster said, the road to 75 for DRK is very long and the truth of the matter is that there are many types of DD with nothing to distinguish us until we get Spinning Slash. Even then though, while Spinning Slash is awesome, there are other DD that can create a light SC. DRKs are versatile in this manner, but the problem is the slow TP gain and it's not so much the accuracy with the addition of sushi, it's that our weapons are just so dang slow.

DRKs, DRG, etc. will always be last in line when it comes to RNG and BLM but that's how the game is set up.

Again, keep both GS and scythe levelled, eat sushi and I'd suggest saving SE for your WS. I really suggest that you start your own parties, otherwise get used to sitting in Jeuno LFG. There have been entire weeks when I was unable to get a party while seeking, so it can be infuriating. If you have a friend that is a PLD or RDM, then you will get more invites. Also, learn when the best opportunity to stun is 1. To save mages, tank. 2. If Voke is down for NIN or PLD 3. on WS of mobs. If you can do this, you will be respected for the job you do, unfortunately, that and a quarter will only get you a paper.

Form your own partys and look for a static as soon as possible and you'll avoid most of the pain of levelling DRK.

If you plan on fighting HNM, level Sword for Spirits Within, cause you'll pretty much be a stun Bish.
                      75 DRK/WAR NIN/WAR 54/27
                      Pain is my profession.

Well it gets better when you get spinning slash..so lvl your GS. Right now, you don't really have anything to offer to the pt that another job can't do. Plus the high cost of maintaining drk (snipper's ring..etc) to be able to perform above average scares ppl. Another factor is alot of ppl play rng nowdays, that at any given lvl there would be an adequete amount of rngs to fill in the block for DD. Now factor in that at your lvl the ideal pt would (or my ideal pt) involve a thf, rng, and blm for dd and most ppl would wait for those to appear before inviting THE lfg DRK. Drks are normally outcast from lvl 1-59 as their usefulness to the pt don't really fully mature till you learn "Spinning slash", as guilotine was overhype and its usefulness is left in question when they nerfed the tp return. But Sickle Moon confistate for guilotine's short comming at lvl 60, since its very sneak attack and dancing edge friendly.

So in the end, i would say to just hang in there. It gets better at 66, where you become one of the strongest if not the strongest closer in the game.

I have logged the last two times our static party has been together. This post pertains to the first meeting.

We fought Velociraptors almost exclusively in Valley of Sorrows with the exception of one Pertyon which was WAY out of our league (no BLM this round). Raptors hit hard, but have no melee damage penalties so all melee hit hard too. Chain #3 was the norm with some chain #4s.

                          Our party was as follows:

                          lv59 DRK/WAR, Dworkin
                          lv60 DRK/SAM, Maynerd
                          lv60 WAR/NIN, Liimhye
                          lv60 PLD/WAR, Sanguinista
                          lv59 RDM/WHM, Strog
                          lv59 WHM/BLM, Xero

Maynerd was a substitute for our regular BLM position. The skill chain was Dworkin using Vorpal Scythe to Liimhye using Rampage for Distortion. Maynerd spammed Guillotine when TP was ready, sometimes twice per battle due to Meditate. Dworkin and Strog both leveled to 59 mid-way through the party. Both DRKs were equipped with Royal Knight's gear, Chaos feet, Sniper's Rings, and Vassago's Scythes. Dworkin was using a Mythril Sallet (saving for Haubergeon) and Maynerd was using the Valkyrie's Mask. The WAR was equipped with Royal Knight's Chainmail, Darksteel Axe +1, Viking Axe, Garnet Rings, Valkyrie's Mask, and Fight's legs, hands, and feet. Fighter's head and body were switched in when the WAR had aggro.

Here are the averages of the 29 fights (including the whiff-fest known as the Peryton):

                          Player | Total | DMG % | Melee | Skill | Spell | M Hit %
                          Dworkin | 868.7 | 21.64% | 725.9 | 123.9 | 18.9 | 57.66%
                          Liimhye | 1410.4 | 35.10% | 1087.4 | 322.1 | 0 | 69.18%
                          Maynerd | 1099.6 | 27.39% | 702.5 | 379.5 | 17.6 | 54.66%
                          Sanguinista | 323.0 | 8.07% | 271 | 52.0 | 0 | 45.05%
                          Strog | 192.3 | 4.78% | 22.3 | 0 | 169.5 | 18.72%

Skillchain averages pertaining to only when they were used:
                          SC: Distortion | 159.3 | 3.94%
                          Rampage | 371.7
                          Guillotine | 406.6
                          Vorpal Scythe | 154.9

                          -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This party took place in Gustav Tunnel. We fought Goblin Mercenaries, Goblin Alchemists, Goblin Shepards, and Robber Crabs. Most gob bombs were prevented so only a few out of the 70 total fights ended prematurely with a bomb suicide. Chain #5 was rarely missed.

                          Our party was as follows:
                          lv59 DRK/WAR, Dworkin
                          lv60 WAR/NIN, Liimhye
                          lv60 PLD/WAR, Sanguinista
                          lv60 BLM/WHM, Gillebon
                          lv60 BRD/WHM, Xuez
                          lv60 WHM/BLM, Xero

This is our full static party, except that Xuez was in place of our regular BRD. The skill chain was Dworkin using Vorpal Scythe then Liimhye using Rampage for Distortion; there were two Slice to Spinning Axe skillchains that were done so Gillebon could use Flare. Gillebon and Xuez leveled to 60 mid-way through the party. Equipment for the DRK was the same except he had Haubergeon instead of Royal Knight's Chainmail. Equipment for the WAR was the same.

Goblin Shepards and Goblin's Leeches have been removed since I was the only one that fought the leeches. This caused my average damage to go down and my average accuracy to go up.

Here are the averages for 40 fights:
                          Player | Total | DMG % | Melee | Skill | Spell | M Hit %
                          Dworkin | 907.9 | 25.42% | 766.9 | 120.7 | 20.3 | 86.27%
                          Gillebon | 883.3 | 23.81% | 0 | 0 | 883.3 | 0.00%
                          Liimhye | 1276 | 35.36% | 911.6 | 364.4 | 0 | 89.72%
                          Sanguinista | 316 | 8.88% | 239.7 | 76.3 | 0 | 62.31%
                          Xuez | 176.9 | 4.86% | 120.4 | 56.5 | 0 | 57.94%

Skillchain averages pertaining to only when they were used:
                          SC: Distortion | 176.5 | 4.62%
                          SC: Liquefaction | 43 | 1.11%
                          Rampage | 470.8
                          Spirit's Within | 258.3
                          Vorpal Scythe | 171.2

                          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

note the number between the war, an myself. its sad that even with the addition of a 2mil gil haub, i still couldnt outdamage a war. also note our vorpal scythes damage, vs the rampage from a war. id hate to see what it look like if they had the huab.

dont think your 84 damage for one hit is something great, when the duel weilding war next to you is popping 40+ a hit. then dbl atk kicks in for a third or even forth time.

Drk/Sam is by far the best combo for dmg lol even at lvl 75 on Golems Spam Guillotines is best.

And yes 50-60 is hard 10 lvls for Drk (and other melee tbh), for the reasons already said.

The reason Rampage owns vorpal scythe is due to the fact that Vorpal Scythe is just a critical hit. Rampage = 5 hits with chance to critical on each of the 5 hits. 1 hit.. 5 hit... hmmmmm

                            Good Drk WS are:

Scythe: (notice you go from lvl 10WS to lvl 200WS.. cause those in between suck)
Slice > Guillotine > Cross Reaper > Spiral Hell (300% WS only)

                            Gsword:
Hard Slash > Sicklemoon > Spinslash (Groundstrike still sucks -.-)

                            Axe:
                            Rampage

                            Sword:
Spirits Within ( ) > Vorpal Blade > Savage Blade (its fun ;x)

                            Greataxe:
                            Steel Cyclone

                            Crossbow:
Slug Shot (need /rng and a quite a bit of r.acc)
                            Full Cursed= O
                            Full Str Gear= O
                            Apocalypse= ; ;

                            DRK - /war /thf /nin /sam /whm
1-year break.. everything so cheap O_O

really the mass majority of drks only care about doing stupidly insane damage all at one time. an when they die. there always like " cool i did so an so damage". to me it feels almost like a lack of respect for the others in the pt. cause now we have to sit there an have downtime, i have to waste what game time i have because a drk doesnt want to play his job in a way that benifets the others. an that night can you believe he did that 3 times total. and comming extremely close to death a number of times.

so im curious about the guy an his log, deathwise, an how did you handle your abilties..

Nin75, Bst75. Drk61, War61, Rdm40, All other jobs are 37. All 3 starting city missions completed. All Zilart missions completed. All CoP missions completed. TouA completed.
