  • Is it me or is there DRK hate in the community?

I dunno, it just seems like for some reason some people do not like a DRK. Whats the deal? I am loving it so far, but I cant help but get this impression from a few out there. Not in game persay, but mostly on a particular messageboard I wont mention (not this one).

It does seem to be alot less than it used to be thats for sure tho.

This is true. Poeple normally dont invite DRKS, DRGS, SAM, MNK. There are exceptions... If someone has played that job and knwo what its capable of, they will invite. But being a dark isnt all too impressive unless you know your shit and all your magic is capped. Ive seen way to many time where Absorb-whatever is resisted, that would happen way less, if your skills were capped.

I would say, make sure that u are a damn good drk, and make a name for yourself, or get into a static.

The way people pick parties wont change... they want a tank, refresher, healer, DD. Best party i was in was RNG RNG RNG PLD BLM RDM.

Insane. But seriously, you'll just have to prove yourself! Good luck man!

There is a time where every job has their moment.

In the case of a DRK, get to 65 and get your Great Sword capped and then you will have you day when you end Light Skillchains for high damage.

Also, a lot of people think DRKs are usually immature and "noobish". Which is wrong, obviously, but it happens.

I am loving DRK so far. The damage output is insane!! Of course, that will slowdown later on. I coudn't imagine it not.

I think Drk's damage stays pretty insane even at later levels. Enough to pull hate from PLD with a single WS without ability as I can see. I was in this level 54 PT with PLD THF DRK, all THF needs to do is stay behind the PLD. Monster will always turn it's back to PLD when they do skillchain. And the Drk hasn't even learnt gillotine yet...

Sickle moon lv60 used to do 700 averge with it sometimes+1k with souleater and its close distotion so its good its rare to see drk have it cuz many drks are noobs and dont even bother with it

At my server many drks are noobs i can say
and everyone at high lvs hate to pt with player lv60~ with skill of lv1 and i believe thats why many people dont like drks
i remember at even lv70 like 5 drks seeking and im only one with spinning slash [i know this cuz most of the drks i know and they are my friends XD]

many people play drk cuz we master of attack and in advance job!!!! woooooot and our quest to get the job is soloable XD and we dont use ammo and so like rng i doubt there is any other choice for noobs ;p sam/drg quests is hard rng need gil and they think war is tank job only so there isnt better than drk for them

i ptd with many drks lvlin my other jobs and i hate the part where they throw last resort+ souleater+ even weapon bash... and ws without sata
and they die all the time [at my server 9 of 10 drks do this shit XD] this enough reasons for people to hate you

drk without capped great sword+scythe is like blm who dont buy spells
2 weapon [ability to make lot of renkeis] and souleater [ get the chain for your pt easy] is nice just learn how to play the job drk is not simple like rng lets say
and learn what spells to use and when

sorry for the long post i love drk job and i want people who play it know how to play it and avoid reasons let people hate you or dont like your job

I loved my drk very very much. Your right though, it does get difficult. For me once I hit 40 things started to slow down. I thought it was just temporary but by the time I hit 50....ya I figured it out! LOL

But yes come 66 (Spinning Slash) things get much better. I have to say, in my experience, when I got Guillo it really didn't help much. In the pt's I would get, they would always want Vorpal Scythe so we could do Distortion. Guillo was used in farming but rarely in pt's. It could have just been my bad luck but that was what I experienced.

                    One thing I always tell drks is to keep both scythe and gs lvled. If you like skill up pt's thats great, but I think most people don't. So trying to keep them skilled up as much as possible while lvling really really helps. Wish someone had told me that way back when I lvled my drk. ; ;

I also had another character and/or job that I would lvl when I would get too frustrated with drk. Sometimes its good to take a break. Ok...all this talk about drks is making me miss mine....

Heh, hatting on RNGs there huh dark devil? DRKs are actually really good, I've enjoyed the parties I've been in with them. The biggest thing I noticed that was bad was when you get a DRK that doesn't try to improve their accuracy. There was one point when SCing with a DRK I had to wait 3 whole fights for him to get that 1 last hit for us to SC -.-

As long as you use your abilities right, got eveything leveled right, and not having some serious accuracy problems then I'd love to party with DRKs like that. Even though RNG and DRK can't do L3 Renkei's with eachother directly we can do some L2 ones that IMO are strongest I've ever seen from those L2 Renkei's.

hmm.. DRKs and RNG are able to get lv3-renkei directly o.O

but only wht the Great Sword ^^ the Scythe is a bit useless in endgame-exp-partys, because the lv3-setup...

Scythe-lv3-renkei: direct with NIN and PLD (and MNK, DRG with their Quest-WS @71)
and the reason the Scyhte is useless for a strong lv3-renkei is because the fact that we need a lv2-Gravitation-renkei we could follow with "Cross Reapor" and/or "Spiral Hell"

Great-Sword is compatible with WAR (Axe), DRG, RNG (both, Bow and Crossbow) WHM (Hexa-Strike xD) and SAM (with their Quest-WS @71)
and the strong renkei follows a lv2-Fusion, which is very easy to create

so in the endgame DRKs are forced to use the Great-Sword because it's a way easier to get a good renkei with it (my max Light-DMG was 1800+ on a IT... quite nice to one-shot an exp-mob )

but yeah... if you can't get your name popular during your 50th, you'll get really rarely an invite... because the most ppl don't want an DRK until they need to fight Gobs or Weapons (which need to be stunned during the battles ><'')

Actually, one comment in the DRK guide just makes my day...

Lv. 59 Haubergeon is available, but most likely you won't be able to afford one. If you are capable of acquiring one, then you shouldn't have to be reading my faq. Shoo, go off and play it by yourself, leave me alone >< This suit is better than AF chest by far, it's the best chest armor for DRK until level 69.
This goes to show how much we utterly *demand* ultra high end armor these days. I don't know how many DRK I've heard called gimp because they didn't have a Hauby.

I like a good DRK - I've not partied with one since my 50's period, alas. Mainly RNG and MNK. Lots and lots of RNG, for the most part. Good XP per hour, but its nice seeing what other jobs can pull out all the stops and do some good damage.

DRK usually fall to the bottom of my invite list for several reasons:

                              (1) Really really REALLY awful experiences with DRKs who haven't levelled both scythe and greatsword. It's like magic, every time I invite a DRK for Vorpal Scythe, they only have great sword levelled... and if I invite them for Spinning Slash, they only have Scythe levelled. Maddening. Less than 1 in 3 DRKs I've partied with have had both weapons within reasonable level range for use in a skillchain.

                              (2) Amazingly few DRKs who know jack about what to do with the spells at their disposal. I've had numerous DRKs ask me for Ballad - even mid-battle(!)... when we were fighting Beetles or Crabs which they could easily just have Aspired. Or the ones that sling every spell in their spell list as fast as they can then yell at the red mage to Refresh... or the ones who won't Stun a monster even after it's beating the black mage into hamburger.

                              (3) Even fewer DRKs I've partied with have a clue about how to control their hate management and JAs. If I never see another Soul Eater / Berserk / Last Resort WS, it'll be way too soon. And any DRK who leaves his Souleater up to whittle away his HP even after his HPs go red without turning it off is most likely never going to get another invite from me.

DRK is a surprisingly complex job, certainly more than most people give it credit for, and rarely do I ever see it played to its potential. At least with a monk, I know what I'm getting when I invite. That's not the case with a DRK, unless I play 20 questions before I send the invitation.

EDIT: Note that nowhere do I mention gear. I don't care whether a DRK has snipers, hauberk, or any of that fancy stuff. It's cool, but it's not necessary for XP purposes. What irritates me is the rarity of people playing the job who understand it and learn how to best make use of its abilities.
