How to properly use Souleater.

I find that all too often, the DRKs I pt with never or rarely use Souleater at all. Can someone give me some situations as to when Souleater should be used? And when Souleater should normally be used? I know it probably differs when DRKs start to sub THF, so information about that would be appreciated as well.

With WAR Subbed I use Souleater ONLY with WS when Last Resort + Berserk combo is down. I use Berserk to get 100TP then add on Last Resort for the WS.

With THF Subbed I use Souleater ONLY with SA+WS when Last Resort is down.

Also, I Souleater+Blood Weapon when the fight isnt headed towards the best ending.

Souleater can be such a double edge sword. If timed incorrectly or overused, it can definitely bring trouble for yourself and the rest of the party. Since, it is a 1 minute ability with a 6 minute cool down...I found it a waste to only stack with a WS and then cancelling immediate after. Souleater can be very potent when used for the full minute under the right circumstances.

Early in my DRK career, I began using Souleater during the later chains when I felt it was taking too long for the monster to die. This worked well since at this point the tank would have full control of the hate. Essentially, what I realized was one of the greatest assets a DRK can bring to a party is the full use of Souleater to facilitate chain 5/6.

Depending on party configuration, healer mp, etc. to consistently hit that ending chain, you would want to save the renkei for the fastest possible kill. The risk is that the mob before the ending chain might take too long to kill and thus time out the chain. When timed correctly or used with THF sub ability trick attack, Souleater can help to kill the monster that much quicker. If properly coordinated with other burst damage attacks like RNGs barrage, the potential for higher chains increases.

I partied with mostly my NIN friend as tank, and never really found an issue with hate when I kept Souleater up for the full minute..even as WAR sub. I just waited until I gauged what I thought was ample hate gained by him and then activated the ability. Using THF sub, tricking the first hit of Souleater is basically enough to keep the hate away from me.

As for stacking with WS...generally the one hit WS do not stack well with Souleater. The more hits in the WS, the more potent the damage from the ability...thus Guillotine and to a lesser extent Cross Reaper are the Souleater partner WSs of choice.

Well the way I make use of it is like this. Save tp for the 0, 2nd, and 4th fights and chain on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th fights. For the 1st chain I use Souleater and for the second I use Last Resort, by the time we get to the 5th chain Souleater is usually up by then. You may be asking "why don't you chain every fight?" well that's usually because most mobs I fight now are more than halfway dead by the time me and the other DD have tp again.

My only comments on using Souleater:
First of all don't be afraid to use it,
in my opinion its a Dark Knight's pride.
SE+Guillotine is beautiful if all hits land.
Absorbs in this case do play a crucial role.
Second, be considerate of the party
that you are in - maximizing dmg is cool
however think of the consequences, if the pt
slows down because had to overheal
it's not good especially if waiting for
raise effects after death.
Third, analyze the battle conditions. If not
favorable there are alternatives besides Souleater
to look to.

My usage of Souleater is similar to Doce's except
I activate Berserk and Last Resort the same time.
It's a matter of personal preference. For some reason
if I activate Berserk prior during battle I miss so much :sweat:
