New Drk, Sniper/ update ring question

I've only been playing DRK for about 4 weeks but Ive done lots of research about the job only problem is this (sorry if I cover old ground) :

Virtually every Drk I talk to in-game say that Sniper rings are essential, and that I must farm for them as soon as I can. Ok but is there a NM that drops these as I have comitments and farming for several weeks seem like a waste of my time.

Also, Is it absolutely necessary to attain snippers or can I stubstitute them for the verner or other update ring?

As I say, sorry if I am covering old ground but any help would be very appretiated

I think the NM you are thinking about is Stroper Chyme. He drops Archers Rings which are used to synth Sniper Rings. Yes Sniper Rings are essential for Dark Knights but you dont have to have them at level 40. Around 55 though you'd want to get atleast one.

heh, hit 40 last night with my Drk, first thing I was asked. "Wheres your sniper rings man ??" -.- ppl expect you to have thos fuckers as soon as soon as you hit 40. Went off to sell my emp pin from my thf to get one and I didnt have enough cash on me to sell, it costs 9,960 to sell it now.. Not that its hard to come up with that gil but sheesh, expenisve to even sell now. You'd think the pain of getting it to drop was enough...

well I just hit lvl 36 last night and with my thf still under leveled and my current lack of gil means that I can scrap any hope of farming early will have to be postponed, using amentrine rings at +2 dex each, cheep but they'll have to do for a while...

You should never be expected to have Snipers by 40th lvl, thats crazy. But by 50th you should and will need at least one. Your at a prime level to hit the Promyions, complete all three, and gain access to the new lands. COP has a new quest in there for the Verner ring for +3 accuracy and a New Mob that drops the +4 Jaeger ring. If I were you I would seriously consider this option, because it's easy on the pocket and gil. Then also get yourself a
Valkyrie Mask, which you can wear upto Artifact helm.

Ok I got my first sniper, a venerer ring, and now I'm looking at valkeries mask til I get my Drk af head piece. I managed to do this by a mix of farming (finally quested aspir so farming was a piece of cake), and gardening (aside from the stuff I usually grow I have my mules growing fire crystals as the price for stacks of them has risen to over 4 k on Alexander). Btw I have had to play nite and day for the last 3 weeks to do this as such my college work is less than up to standard (please no one else do this, its not worth it).

The next stage of my Drk's life is questioned by why I haven't recieved a single invite to pt, even though my flag has been up all the time while farming (I've only recieved 2 invites both of which the pt's broke up after an hour).

I'm sure this topic has been brought up before but I'm not asking for a solution, only if other drks have experience this? (current level 44)

Honstly, theres no one way to correct that, Its all up to chance of what people need at any given time. I was lucky to get in a pt with all the rest of the people being LS members with each other and joined up with them. So I got from 39 to 45 in 4 nights. But the best thing to do is.. form your own pts. Its what I've always had to do when I got tired of wating. Its either that, prey for a party, or go farm while lfg.

Wish I could say it was easier, but thats how they set up this game -.-;

for some reason mids 40s drks have a hard time getting partys. this is partly because everyone wants to be a drk. ive seen as many as 6 or 7 drks seeking in that range at the same time with only a total of 10 people seeking alltogether. it seems to have become better for me since ive hit mid 50s. partly because ive built a good rep, partly becuase of good equip. i also think some became discouraged during these levels, quit or changed jobs. ive been invited to 3 different partys as soon as i log on just this week, and if i look for a replacement there are no other drks available. so hang in there get thru the tough levels farm cause your gonna need that gil soon enuff.

I have found that finding a PT in the 40 lvls has, quite honestly, sucked. It actually got so bad as to the point that I have stopped lvling to get my fishing lvl up to 50+ so that I can fish on Quifim and make a profit while waiting for invite.

I hope it gets better along the way or I am gonna be one RICH low lvl DRK.

It's because you just hit the quagmire of melee leveling.
It has nothing to do with being a DRK for invites, but in that
there are so many damn melee jobs or Damage dealer types.
So if your not on when someone is looking to fill those slots
your @ssed out. And they fill quick. Best bet is to start networking and get a static group going asap.

Get your Thief sub up to 30th lvl ASAP. I really hate playing anything other than DRK/WAR or War/NIN, but grit your teeth
and bear it. Steal & Flee will be your best friends in getting those
Snipers. Goldsmithing isnt a must, but if you can also mend Silver
beast coins it'll come that much quicker. Once you have these
simply hit Delkfutt Tower and make it your woman. Learn it well
and you stand to make allot of easy gil quickly.

fishing 200K worth of gigant squid in about 4 hours' time.

Rinse repeat for a week and DING! yer Dual Snipered :D

Hmmm ... quest quest quest =p

For example, if you know you won't need NIN sub EVER ... check the price of Utsusemi: Ichi scrolls. Here on Hades, they've reached an appalling 700K (could be even more) and Sniper's are 400K each. You can quest for the scroll and sell it and then buy a ring.

Secondly, do Promys with your LS. Once you've finished Chapter 1, you gain access to Lufaise Meadows and the general Tavnazian area (sp?) ... anywho, Venerer is quested as well. =) Please don't buy this -.-;; It's like throwing away good gil after bad, especially since Promy prepping is mad expensive.

If you want to try your luck and compete with the Gil Sellers (tm) to get the Archer's Ring (which is the ring used to CRAFT Sniper's - Sniper's are NOT dropped), head to Ordelles Caves and then camp Stroper Chymes, which are jelly type monsters (IT IS NOT AN NM, PEOPLE!)

Level 33 to 35, but jellies are INCREDIBLY ASS STRONG for the levels they check. So, to be safe, be sure you're well into your 40s (I recommend you be at least 50 for this actually) with very good +def gear and don't forget to sub THF for the TH. Or go camp with friends, but I assure you, unless you communicate effectively with them, you'll have issues when talk of gils come up.

I dunno. It took me a better part of a whole year before I could buy everything @ 60. 2x Sniper's, 1x Haubu, my own Life Belt, etc. BTW, I did stop leveling for 8 mos. before coming up with the near 2.5 million gils to buy this stuff. If you think it's not worth it, then stop leveling DRK (or any job for that matter) and pick up WOW instead.
