I couldn't believe a thing I saw last night. After reading aformented thread, I was led into disbelief that Galkas were the best Dark Kunigits. I thought dagon2002's arguements were fallacious in the sense he was counting the hits, but not the misses of the race and its uses in the realm of the Dark. Dagon was online at the time and in a party, so I decided to visit him in Cape Terrigan (I had made a Galka Character, and gave him the job of Warrior, dagon told me that because I was a Galka, no creatures could kill me on the way to Cape Terrigan). Oddly enough, I successfully made it to Cape Terrigan and found the camp of dagon within a few minutes (dagon had told me that since Galkas have +3 dexterity compared to Elvaans, by praying to the Talekeeper, I would have Flee + Chocobo Mazurka + natural Chocobo speed stacked at once instantly forever).

The party consisted of an Elvaan Paladin, an Elvaan Ranger, a Tarutaru Red Mage, a Tarutaru Black Mage, a Mithra Warrior, and the illustrious Pipedream himself. The Ranger and the Black Mage had not partied with dagon before, and they were in disbelief of his haughty claims of superiority. They had partied with pretty good Elvaan and Tarutaru DRKs, and they wanted to see the truth behind the boast. Anyway, they were all decked out in the finest gears that money could buy, and they were prepared to pull in the next monster. The RNG proceeded to pull a crab, and the excitement was under way.

I was paying attention to the damages specifically of the WAR, DRK, and RNG. The damage was pretty typical, Ranger doing the most and the Warrior and Dark Knight in roughly the same area. But suddenly, dagon yelled "OMFG I HAVE AL BEST ITAMZ!! WATHC MY MEGA DAMAGORZ WITH MY HUUUUUUGGGGGGEEE AND VASTLY IMPORTANT HP DIFFERENCE WITH SOUL EAT0R!@!!@!!!!1@1!!1@!@oneatsign". He proceded to turn on Soul Eator, and for the next 30 seconds he was doing thousands apon thousands of melee damage to the somehow vitrious crab. The Ranger couldn't believe his eyes. The Black Mage was in disbelief and called "hacks", and Peter Griffen spontaniously combusted.

The battle was running smoothly, until the Mithra Warrior accidentally provoked a pugil for some reason. The PLD was about to cure the WAR, use Invincible and tank both of the monsters, but dagon screamed for a halt. "OMFG, I can tank and kill this monster, I am a Galka Dark Knight, I am good at being better than all of you". They shakenly agreed, and he proceeded to tank the Pugil. The fight was not going well, the Ranger was unloading on the Crab while the Paladin and Warrior used all of their hate-grabbing abilities to keep it off of the bow-legged Elvaan, and dagon was losing HP faster than an '82 Honda Civic who hasn't had it's oil changed in 20 years, all seemed lost.

And the defining moment came. Just as the Paladin was coming to take over tanking duties after the crab had been dispatched, the Pugil charged up a Screwdriver. Everyone thought dagon was dead, but screaming "I AR A GLAKA LOLO, MY HPAR = TEH LIVE", dagon2002 survived the attack with exactly 119 HP left, which was his level 59 statistical advantage over an Elvaan.

The hit points made such a difference that the Ranger exploded and the Tarutaru Black Mage turned into a Seagull.

I will never doubt dagon2002 and the denizens of Fabricatia again.


MORAL OF THE STORY: If you are not dagon2002, you will explode or turn into a seagull if you disagree with him.

Bravo! I just managed to kill over an hour on a slow day at work reading this single thread. Its almost 10 o'clock and only an hour before I'm done. Your powers of debate are absolutely astounding.

Sarcasm aside I had made the obviously wrong assumption since really everyone on the ranger forum had agreed that race means little to nothing for ranger, that all the other job forums had come to the same agreement. Glad there are still some surprises out there.

yeah that's also not necessarily true taru are weak and not what i call great with DDing, I think as cool as they are lol, taru's have gone a lil far with the taru power thing, they're good at mages brd thf rng and pld, that's where they're best IMO, when getting into the whole drk drg war mnk thing I don't think theyre quite at their best...I dunno that's just me (this is not meant for flames from you high lvl taru DD's)

Taru may have more MP, but they get the shit knocked out of them by irregularly shaped dust particles. What would Screwdriver do? I've initiated WSs from monsters several times when I hit them with a Boosted Sturmwind. They'll turn and hit me with it, and the tank will be a bit glad they didn't take it.

Taru definately don't make the best DD.

As for Tarutaru not being the best DD I agree a bit here, but as with the Job that is Dark Knight, any race can do it and do it well. It just depends on your dedication.

And Dagon clearly does not know wtf he is talking about.

In my entire Career as a Dark Knight, Even with being Mithra and supposedly having " Gimped " Str, I have single handedly outdamaged EVERY SINGLE Dark Knight I have ever come across. In fact, in my entire Career as a Dark Knight, I have only truly come across TWO Dark Knights other then myself that I consider to be properly equipped.

Galka, Elvaan, Doesn't matter. I have BURIED them in damage.

Almost everyone FREAKS when they See I have two Snipers when they invite me into an exp pt. I Still don't get it.

When I went to do my AF 3 for my helm, there were 6 other Dark Knights with us during that time. I took the option of examining each and every single one of them, since I was level 50 at the time and they were level 58 or higher.

Let me tell you what I saw was absolutley horrifying. To see a level 60 Dark Knight with NO ACC+ Gear, I mean NONE! Nada, Zip, Zilch, Zero. I think I saw 1 Dark Knight with Acc+ gear, and that was the Tarutaru and it was only 1 assault earring. Almost of the other Dark Knight's were similar to this state of affairs. Very and I do mean VERY poor equipment for their level. Note that I do not consider our AF poor, being a Mithra Drk AF boosts all of my racial weaknesses.



The sole #1 reason is that alot of Dark Knight's just do not take the time to get what they need. Everyone is in a Rush to hit level 75 and thus will not take the time to farm to attain the items that they need. For Example, I was partying recetly and waiting for our paladin to arrive in East Altepa, so the Galka Monk and I went around randomly thrashing things just for the heck of it. The Elvaan then decided to join, Said Elvaan being a Dark Knight.

He had Mithkabob On, I had Mithkabob on. No other buffs.

Now I didn't have damage numbers up, I turn pt dmg off because I don't like alot of combat spam. I'll turn it on when the #'s interest me however. But at the time we were fighting random stuff I could tell the Elvaan Dark was getting depressed by the -_- he made after he turned on Soul Eater and then hit the mob at full health, and then 'I' hit the mob and did 50 more dmg then him. Red Mage's quote, not mine. I stopped and asked her if I was doing more dmg per hit and she said " O yea....40-50 More per strike "

Now I should note the Elvaan was not poorly equipped in my opinion. Save maybe his armor, but I guess alot of you guys still prefer to wear the checkerboard sweater when I moved onto Mythril instead. He did have one sniper, and one lifebelt. But only had beetle earrings and not the +1 that I have. So our gear was different. I could tell by the looks of his gear he was saving up for the 2nd sniper.


Point of all of this is simple:

I don't care how much you Praise your sweet precious race to be the end all powerful slaughterer of thousands. If you do NOT get the proper gear and take the time and Dedication to do your job, then someone like me will come along and embarrass the **** out of you because I did take the time and dedication to do my job right.

I have seen Gear and properly leveled sub be the #1 reason as to why I always outdamage every Drk I come across. Regardless of race. Some of you guys HAVE GOT to take the time to do your job. Please. I spent WEEKS farming at level 40 for my Sniper Rings. And I haven't regretted it one Iota.


Race Matters Jack if you don't take the time to do your job and do it right. Soul eater damage means very little if you can't hit the mob at all.

Equip first, always. At 60 if a DRK doesn't have 25-30 ACC bonus, then he's gimp.

After equip, then race. If 5 DRKs are seeking, one from each race, with identical equip in their comments, I'd take them in this order:

Galka > Elvaan > Mithra > Hume > Taru

I'm not sure how much better DRKs Galka make, however, as far as Elvaan DRKs, lots of bad experiences there. With people who play Elvaans, in general, really.

The one thing that makes a Galka DRK best IMO is having higher HP and VIT. Not just for Soul Eater, but for having more of a chance to survive if they pull hate :p

The MP thing isn't that much of a problem. They'll get an occasional Refresh or step into Ballad Range when the puller goes (or get Ballad every so often before they pull) and that'd be that.

Blah, who resurrects these 1+ year old threads? It doesn't accomplish anything except to foster misunderstandings.

Galka: Obvious advantages as DRK, lots of HP for Souleater, good STR, decent DEX. Magical aspects somewhat lacking, but DRK don't get much mileage out of most of their magic anyway aside from the odd Drain/Aspir/Absorb, so that's not saying a lot. Arguably the best disposed of the 5 races for Dark Knight. Also looks the best in DRK AF, IMHO - very menacing.

Elvaan: Best STR, but at the cost of DEX. High HP for Souleater. Magical abilities similarly weak to Galka (slightly more MP, slightly less INT), still not much of a consideration. Decent DRKs.

Mithra: Low STR, high DEX. Moderate MP, moderate INT. Also decent DRKs.

Hume: Average everywhere. Decent DRKs.

Tarutaru: Low STR, low HP. Arguably the weakest race at DRK, though higher INT gives many of their WS an extra kick (stat damage bonus). Still decent, despite the drawbacks.

what was the point of this O_o; for the record, any race can best any other race in a ballista match or an experience party, all that matters is the will and knowledge of the player who controls the charector.
