Well on multiple occasions Ive out damaged Mnk and Rangers in my parties. You say drks are useless in xp parties pre-60? well so are you. They werent Gimps, and Niether was I.

You realy are contradicting your self when you say monks are the greatest melee. This might be true, but rangers out damage Monks no contest. Why dont you go make a Topic on the Monk board saying how much better rangers are than monks? Or better yet, why dont you become one, because ranger out damage monks with no problems.

dude get off the monks nuts. i outdamage monks melee wise. my 1 scythe attack does more damage than a monks 2 hit attack. the only reason monks outdamage darks is because their weaponskills are so much better than the crappy weaponskills darks get. im sure after a dark gets crossreaper and spinning slash there is no contest in damage. dark wins.

I have seen many MNK's outdamage DRK's, even at high lvl's 60+. I've also seen High lvl DRK's outdamage high lvl MNK's.

Point is, the more time that you put into your job, the more powerful you'll eventually become...

People have their strength's and weaknesses, but, honestly, I see no reason to even consider ridding the Game of one of the most prolific damage dealers in the game.

Great, you enjoy the MNK, but, damn man, it's just a game, let ppl be what they want, and accept it!

don't care about the Delay factor, while that is precisely why MNK's outdamge DRK's under many, non-skeleton-fighting circumstances. and too bad ur point is conveniently ignored.

this is the quote from my old post (here), basically making the same point as Zaptruder;

as a supplement to this statement, MNK's Martial Arts passive ability reduces the Delay quite a bit. at lvl 61, MNK's bare fists' Delay gets down to 320. even when we equip Patas type weapons, Delay stays around 400. and DRK's scythe's Delay? 500+

even when ppl do care to add up some numbers, they still don't consider this matter just enough. 50+50=100, and that DRK is hitting for 120 per hit. and they say, DRK WINS. if u consider well enough, u know it's not just true.

as for those who asked for the evidence be presented, i agree that without "valid" and "reliable" ones, that the point will never be made clear. however, like the original poster pointed out, though in a tone that i'd never take as appropriate either, there r numerous log parsing results, that prove that MNK's outdamage all other physical meleeing dmg jobs ("physical meleeing dmg jobs" exclude RNG's, since it's not technically a melee, or 'close fight', though physical), having had posted in various Japanese forums. (which, as u can easily imagine, brought up discussions there just like this, as well.) but unfortunately, they r now too old to be traced back. again, u r right, i understand that without presenting the actual evidence, my words here r just as good as trash, but just for the record, i do concur in seeing such results.


and the bottom line is, like many others have pointed out, DRK and MNK play different roles in a party, which could vary from party to party on various conditions. for that, the idea of comparing the pure dmg output is simply pointless. DRK's got MP, and does that fact alone make them any better? obviously not. likewise, MNK's got no MP, and does that make them inferior to those jobs w/ MP? of course not. there r many different ways and aspects to compare things but just focusing on one factor and labeling one as better or worse overall on that factor alone is simply not "valid." it's like comparing 2 different cars of different makes and just because one has a larger engine, u say car A is better than B. and it's not like comparing Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. it's more like comparing Toyota RAV4 and Honda Accord Wagon, which clearly have different concepts.

I'm not even level 20 yet.. But even I can tell that every class/job brings something of its own to the table. Who cares if Monks can outdamage Dark Knights? Dark Knights bring other things to the party as well.

The only problem I have with those parsing tests that bside mentioned is that they were done quite some time ago (if I remember right). I don't know of any extensive tests that have been done since the level cap was raised to 75. It's possible the results could be different, especially when you consider additional weapons, modified weaponskills etc. I'm sure you're aware that dark knights get a very high-damage scythe at 73, significantly stronger than the best one previously available. Of course monks also get better weapons too, but the increase might be less significant than the one dark knights get. I'm not saying I think drk would overtake mnk, just that the tests, though reliable at the time and within the level range tested, do not necessarily apply to the current state of the game.

If there has in fact been testing at the current level cap, I'd be very interested to see it. I'd love to be able to test myself, but controlled and reliable circumstances with which to test are not easy to produce. And if care isn't taken, results like the recent one posted in the monk forum are produced. There were so many variables in that parse that made any drk/mnk comparison from the parse completely ridiculous, yet people took it as an indication that mnk is more damaging than drk. You have to understand that a single parse from a single party at a specific level tells nothing about the class, it's just numbers for that specific instance.

btw, raw dmg wise, mnk > drk post 51 (due to kick and the occasional double atk). but that hardly makes drk's worthless

i will say that... drks are not thought up right by most people. they arent just ment to do uB3r dmg. absorb- spells bitchs!! im pretty sure, the reason drk scroes so low on the dmg tests is cuz of the time they spend casting their absorb spells, resting to get MP back (most refreshers dont refresh them, mostly mages-pld's first).

as earlier, ppl say wars arent as good tanks as plds n nin's. well for 1) a war isnt a tank ex job, as... it can use a shitload of weapons very well, do decent dmg and tank alright to good. whereas a pld is basically a tank ex.

i think u guys have a misconception syndrome. SE made the jobs unique to keep X job from being totally worthless and not wanted at all. hmm guess they let a intern do dragoon (^_^) lol
