  • Keeping skills capped: Impossible without skill up pt?!

I'm a 41 DRK, and I'm having serious trouble keeping my skills capped. Not just magic, weapons skills too. I'm trying to raise Scythe and Great Sword, and the result is they're both 110 . I wouldn't say my equipment is that gimp; I have the hume RSE gloves and leaping boots (Ya, no peacock charm or emperor pin, but cut a brother some slack  ). As for magic, it's just horrible. I think I overfocused on enfeeble and elemental, and the result is all my magic skills are around 102 or so. I even rest for mp sometimes too try and get the extra dark magic skill ups, and I feel really bad about it >.<.

So, my question is, how do I keep my skills raised. I'm in this semi-set pt thing with another dark knight who is also a high lvl RDM, and I feel inferior whenever I get resisted on absorbs (Which on Desert Beetles, is like 70% of the time). Should I get a skill up pt? How exactly does one go about getting one of those, shouting in Jeuno? From my experience, shouts never work .

(Also, random question, how do you disable ctrl+esc, alt+tab, etc.?)

Once you reach lv.51, this will no longer be a problem 51-60 = 20k exp per level, more than enough time for you to cap Dark Magic, Elemental Magic, Scythe, and Greatsword every level.

Make sure your Scythe and Dark Magic Skill stay capped, then work on the other stuff as time permits. If they fall too far behind, wait until lv.50+ when you do G1 parties, Coffer Key hunting, and the like. Most of the time, the key droppers you'll be fighting are Very Tough, and your accuracy, even with a non-capped weapon will be pretty high. Don't miss your opportunity to catch them all up in the 50s though, or you'll be doing what i'm doing... I spend about 3 hours a day at the zone line of Ifrit's Cauldron as DRK/WHM casting Dia on Volcanic Bees to raise enfeebles...

Hairpin, snipers, and peacock charm would not save you from this problem(although i think it does mitigate it). But everyone who tries to do what you are doing will struggle to keep all their skills capped. At that level you just pick up levels too quickly to keep everthing maxed. Just do your best, and at 50 get involved with genkai 1 groups to get everything caught up. After you've completed genkai 1 you can just park your character in the necropolis(glacier entrance) and just about any group will let you join their alliance to help kill liches since you won't be lotting on the papyrus.

Yeah, I don't know what server you guys are on but on Midgardsormr, everytime I run around Jeuno. There is a crapload of people shouting for help with Genkai's, AF's, Missions, and other such things. So many oppertunities to skill things up in the 50's its not even funny. Yes, I know some of you would probably rather rush to 60 but I think its better to just take your time getting to 60 so that when you get there. You won't have to stop leveling. Like right now, i'm working on thief. Got it to 24 and I aint stopping until its at least 30.

Oh, this is a random unrelated question, but at what lvl are you expected to have 1 sniper ring? What lvl are you expected to have 2?

                  1. 40

                  2. 40

                  lol, j/k

most people have them between 42-45, i.e. when it gets really easy to farm batallia and beaucidine tigers.

You can keep your primary weapons (scythe and greatsword) capped in exp parties, but skill in elemental magic and enfeebling magic are almost impossible to keep capped. In an exp party, the only spells you should be taking the time to cast are dark magic spells.

ASAP.... I'd sell your leaping boots to buy a sniper, 5 acc > 3 dex anyday...

Never? Heh. The only people who ask me why I don't have 2 are people who don't XP with me. Everytime I get enough money for 1, I end up leveling and needing another piece of equipment more. I figure I'll get to 60, then I might be able to farm something.

Hmmm...so what is the standard way/your way to get money for snipers? I heard that tiger drop rate was nerfed so it's now not worth the trouble.

camp NM or do BCNM, it's fun, it's rewarding, or if you can't, look up the 255 other threads on "how to make money."

Having got my Snipers at 43, I find it really sad when I encounter a player who says something like "2 Snipers? Whoa, you must be rich". They never believe me when I say my current Gil is usually between 10k-20k.

The ONLY way to get Snipers (and by "only" I mean by far and away most efficient) is NM camping. Lots of people think this is hopeless, or they can't take the boredom and give up really quickly, but honestly, farming Tigers in Battalia it would literally take you months to accumulate enough money (I also don't know why everyone suggests Battalia Tiger farming when Valkurm Hill lizards are easier, (read: trainable) and their drops are worth more...). Hunting an NM like Hoo Mjuu, each drop pays for a Sniper Ring and leaves you enough money left over to get a Lifebelt for when you hit 48 (at least, the prices on my server alow that: Monster Signa: 350k-370k, Sniper's Ring 300k, Lifebelt 60k-70k).

If you're in any way competent at pulling Hoo Mjuu then even the unluckiest of people will get a drop from him in a week maximum. Other NMs can be a bit more challenging to get to first but usually drop more frequently anyway (like Valkurm Emperor who seems to have a pretty high drop-rate). Basically, I almost experience a twinge of anger when someone says to me (at lvl 45) I've never had more than 20k at any time. Obviously people can play the game as they wish, I just find that, on the whole, those who are more interested in leveling than equipment, tend to hold the party they're in back somewhat (A perfect example being the appalling miss-rate of a Sniper-less DRK). It's hard to stomach waiting around just hitting a macro (as a lot of NM camping entails) but it's SOOO worth it when you see the item you want drop, the feeling being almost like some kind of euphoria.

As for Skill-ups (sorry for digressing so massively), my GS is currently lagging about 15 levels behind my Scythe since, at the moment, there's NO WAY to keep it capped w/o skill-up parties (Scythe generally caps at between 4000xp and 6000xp into the level). I'm hoping, as said above, that the high xp requirements of leveling past 50 will give me the time to cap all my skills, and I'll definitely get as much skill-up as possible from Genkai 1 too.
