Is Great Sword necessary?

Hi, I'm a level 12 Warrior and I've been using a scythe for the most part. I currently have it up to 36. When I become a DRK, am I ever going to NEED to use a Great Sword, or will a Scythe always suffice?

You will likely use Great Sword quite a bit - many of the low lvl scythe skills, well kinda suck, as well at higher lvls Great Sword can close light renkei (which is in demand as much of the lvling is done off undead).

LEVEL UP THE FUCKING GREATSWORD, IT WILL SAVE YOU SO MUCH PAIN.

This thing is a motherfucker to lvl up.

Make sure every level you cap GS and Scythe.

Yes and No, you can do fine with scythe up to 66 really. You could use Greatsword for Power Slash to skill chain with thiefs viper bite but at 49 you get Vorpal Scythe which SC's with almost everything. Most players dont mind from now on since you have Vorpal Scythe. You want Guillotine for Farming purposes and the fact it does alot of damage. At 65 You get Cross Reaper which can close the Dark lvl 3 skill chain which is also a scythe weapon skill. At 66, almost everyone requires you to have Great Sword leveled.....You get Spinning Slash which closes lvl 3 Light skill chain. Both are important to keep leveled but at 66+ you fight alot of monsters who are weak to light.

My advice would be to start leveling as soon as possible. Join up with Genkai or AF partys and level the skill. Personally I have a static group who onces hits 60 were gunna form a skill up party so I'm not too worried.

Couldn't of said it better mylself, you'll have to excuse me I'm omw to "help" someone doing coffer keys to level the GS.

dun worry, skilling up a weapon up to 225 may seem like a pain in the ass, but after you've levelled a job to 66 time becomes insignificant XD

for the most part, i've found powerslash is more reliable than vorpal scythe, despite the fact that their descriptions are the same. vorpal tends to miss or not critical more for me than powerslash does.
