Giddeus BCNM & Stun Spell

Hi there guys,

I'm a new member of this forum so bear with me if I commit any protocol errors ok?

Anway today i fought my first BCNM40 with my LS. It was the Giddeus Mandras. The fight was not going too well, but we were hanging in there.

That was until the black mandra decided to cast Flood. I presume that is an ancient magic right? I immediately started casting Stun after I saw the message. I even saw the message "Black mandra is stunned". I was like going "Hooray"

Until I noticed it was still casting the spell. It proceeded to one shot me for 704 damage. :sweat:

My question is that is there a certain window I must cast my stun to interrupt his casting? Or is it totaly random?

I'm asking this becasue i have been stopping gobbie bombs no problem, not once have I failed

i dont know about why stunning him wouldnt stop his ancient magic casting.. its a long casting and as soon as he got stunned he should've stopped O_O

It happened a lot fighting Lich's whenever they'd cast Quake or Tornado. Usually I'd stun in the middle of casting and weapon bash too, then everyone else would try and interrupt the spell somehow. So it could be that you used stun too early, or it wasn't enough to stop him.

I started casting 2s after he started casting.
What do you mean by too early? Is there a specific window?
Because i got the message that he was stunned, and still he continued casting

Here's my experience from soloing WHM to level 10. If I'm hit during the first 20% or the last 20% my spell will not be interrupted. If i'm hit in the middle 20-80% of cast I will be interrupted. I think it's safe to assume that enemies work the same way. So you must have casted too quickly.

Dvororovoi has casted Flood 3 times for me and been successfully stunned every time. However, after being stunned he still has magic coming out of his head; it's really scary, so I usually throw in a weapon bash as well.

One last sorta off topic thing: if you have hate from the black guy your PT is doing something wrong. This is a hard fight and on their first time doing this everyone should use their two hours. Because your 2 hour sucks horribly, just about any other melee that you'd have gone with should have outdamaged you and had hate.

I've tried to stun blackie and failed every single time. For awhile I thought he simply could not be prevented from casting Flood.

Not that it mattered, we had a Ninja tanking him anyways, but I wanted to feel more useful.

Is there a % chance to it working, or a window? I've heard sleeping the black one works 100%, kind of perturbed stun doesn't.

I agree, I should not be having the hate.
We went as a PT of brd/rdm/whm/pld/drk/thf. None have any damaging 2 hours like say a war or monk though.
I wish we could have found better PLDs around . Damn PLD claimed he did not have flash at lvl 40 ><

I seriously don't wish to point fingers, but why do DRKs get most of the blame of lack of aggro management when somtimes its as much and even more the PLD's fault.

Seriously, how hard is it to be a PLD and stack hate?
Provoke and flash when timer is up, sentinel and shield bash, throw in cure i and IIs between mob attacks. If mob turns from you, cure III the person he is hitting.

It boogles the mind how something so simple can't be achieved at times.

Yeah what pleb says make sense. I remember sometimes my spell being not interuppted although i somehow was hit near the end. Will try it again tomorrow!

Our tank died 2 times cause I stunned almost immediately after he started casting.

hm.... most people just say it is very hard to stun the black one while flood is being cast, the most common advice is for the person who is getting flood to run veeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyy far away since the bcnm arena is very big.

Hmmm.

Yea...I don't see how or why it didn't stun him... I play Samurai and if a goblin is about to bomb toss I normally use a "Stun Effect" weapon skill (Tachi: Hobaku) to stop them. And the magic spell works just as well. Could it be that stun only stops physical attacks right away? Oh well, this is interesting and I too would like to know as to prepare my party for such fights. To successfully stun a spell using stun effects, the monster must be in a "stunned" state during the end of the casting; for ancient magic it's simply a pain in the ass... Your best bet is unlocking and running far far away once you see the message to cancel the cast.

can be done early on in casting but seems impossible in the middle, i know this is opposite of what everyone is saying but i'm thinking back to my BC fights with magic pots, i would only pay attention to log and block out all other chat information, looking for "magic pot starts casting tornado" and i'd have my finger on stun macro, it always worked when i hit it the second i saw it casting. dont know if that helps much, it never never never never worked when i stunned it in the middle of its casting.
