Question about Souleater

I just made 30 the other day and I have a question about souleater. I'm looking for confirmation more than anything else, so here it goes.

Is the HP drain % based or fixed amount?

Is the damage bonus a % as well and is it affected on you current HP?

At first i heard souleater takes 5% of your base life points, but as i was lvling it looked more like 10% of it.

Im not sure if it takes that 10% and adds it to damage but if its that so hmmmm it doesnt really give a bonus. Maybe it takes 10% Life and adds 15% damage ^^.

i was also woundering about this......can you actually die if you use soul easter with 1hp?...also, does souleater down your defence like most attack buffs do(i.e boost, last resort, berserk)?

it takes 10% of your current HP away the lower your HP gets the weaker darkness becomes. it doesnt lower your def or raise your attack(stats) it just put the HP lost into your swing.

Ok, I also have a quick question about Souleater.

I just acquired it and i'm a little worried. I was so happy when I got it that I immediatly tested it out on one of the goblins in Battalia. I got my TP up too 100% then used Beserk first. This alone took my damage up from the 40's to the 60's on normal hits. I was very impressed with this. Then I used Souleater and immediatly used Shadow of Death. My damage was 60. No different from my normal swings with JUST beserk. Needless to say, I was expecting damage just above 100 at least but was dissapointed. Is this supposed to happen? Last I heard, Souleater works with weapon skills too.

I never kept Souleater up for fear of losing my life and immediatly canceled out Souleater and Beserk out. Yes yes, I know I probably shouldn't stack Beserk and Souleater too often but humor me, this was just a test. Any thoughts on the damage?

Souleater takes 10% of your remaining HP (15% with AF helm) and adds it to damage, which is a set number that ignores armor or resistance of anything. In terms of WS, it only works on physical WS's that have a possibility of missing, therefore red lotus, shadow of death, freezebite, etc are not affected by souleater or any other attack buff; rather, these are effected by your INT stat and most importantly, the monster's resistance or weakness to that element. In general, physical WS's do more damage, but these elemental ones never miss. It's not possible to actually kill yourself, but if you're at 1% it becomes ineffective until you're healed. Quite suicidal to keep it up when your HP drops to orange anyhow (usually means mages don't wanna heal you, lol).

Souleater is, simply put, the most awesome ability to have, I don't care what anyone else says.

BTW, NEVER use spinning scythe with souleater. I did it in valkurm once on a train of monsters that wouldn't give me any experience. 900 to 10 HP in one shot...

...The WHM that raised me must have wondered wtf a level 50 was doing dead in valkurm. I was too embarassed to tell :p

Thank you for the replies guys, I did some more experimenting with it while in a good group (all japanese except me) in Crawlers Nest, works great.

I usualy use it after tank locks aggro, when I am full life and the use drain to top my HP after a couple of swings. With 2 WHM in the party one can afford to toss me a small heal too so I can do pretty good damage. I usualy keep it up for the full minute and the damage difference is very noticeable. As long as the tanks can keep aggro, it's awesome.

Yes, you'll have to excuse my ignorance Awntawn. I'm still green when it comes to DRK and hadn't realized that elemental weapon skills are not effected by Souleater.

At any rate, I proceeded to Qufim to do yet another test. The test subject was a Giant Ranger. I had previously collected TP, bringing it to 300%. I fired up Beserk, Last Resort, and then Souleater (yes, I know don't do it in a party). Then went with Slice. 336 damage. I shat my pants. That was 3/4 of its health right there. It was quite humorous seeing his health bar drop so much so fast. My very next hit criticled doing 150+ damage, finishing the fight right there. The entire battle took roughly 5 seconds. Can anyone say "pwned"?

You're right. Souleater is the best ability I have ever seen in my life. It looks badass when you fire it up, it sounds badass, and the damage output is badass. Souleater = teh badass.:spin:

I fired up Beserk, Last Resort, and then Souleater (yes, I know don't do it in a party). Then went with Slice

Now replace Beserk with Sneak Attack and Slice with Guillotine. That is why DRKs rule

sneak does make the first hit of the WS a 100% surefire hit, so i guess that counts for something.

No souleater here.

Normally does around 250~500 w/ war sub, 700 if it dual swings. You get this consistently with THF sub.

Oh yeah, and no hate on me. RNG is alive too. Assuming the monster doesn't die. :/
