  • DRK Quest: What did I do wrong?

I tried this quest last night. I got it as a level 30 RDM.Then changed to WAR to equip the sword.

I killed 110 mobs as a level 1 WAR with the Chaosbringer. All noob mobs outside the mines entrance. All without logging off ,zoning, or changing jobs untill over 100 kills.

I did have RDM subbed and was using DIA to make it easier, so perhaps I didnt get the killing blow, as some mobs fell from the DoT. Could this be the problem? I have to kill them with the sword alone? It is not at all clear how you have to kill hem, nor did I get any quest info in my quest log.

I switched back to RDM after 110 to make the trip to the final NPC in Beaduaux and no cutscene. Tried again as level 4 WAR and again no cutscene. When does the scene happen. Someone said it was when you first zone in. Is there somewhere I have to go in that zone?

Maybe I shouldnt have switched. Why cant they put a little info in the quest log. 4 hours wasted last night. I wasnt happy at all.

Its so frustrating. Not knowing what I did wrong. At least then I could make sure I didnt do it wrong again.

Is there anyway to check the number of kills in game?

Please help a very sad RDM who wants to be a Dark Knight.

If the monster died because of Dia then it won't count towards your death tally. The final strike must be dealt by the quest sword. You don't have to go to Bedo with your Warrior either, since you can go with any job as long as you've killed 100 monsters with the sword. There's no way to check the number of kills either, so the next best thing to do is keep count manually.

      Thanks for the reply.

I figured it might be that.

Oh well, 100 more mobs to kill again.

      /sigh

Think I will get an escort to Beadaux as WAR just to be sure this time and not change job back to my RDM. Dont want to do it 3 times. Or do I have to finish the quest as a level 30?

      Thanks again.

any level/job can enter bedo after the 100 have been killed. sword must deal finishing blow, like valient said. rather easy, also consider keeping the sword as you will recieve the death bringer upgrade quest later.

2 Tips, dont use dia, becuase as they stated the dealt must be given with the sword, and Dont kill bees, they do final sting and kill themselves, and im sure you probably killed alot, a good way to keep track of kills, is everytime you make a kill type the number, like 1 in the caht box, then 2 then so on. its a good way to keep track. And yes you can go to bead with any job as long as the sword killed 100. Also you can zone log and anything and it still keeps your kill count, so if i was you kill 30 or so more and go back.

I was in the same boat as you, I even spent 1k on prism dust to get my lvl 5 warrior to Beaudeaux. I didn't get the cutscene and I was very pissed off. Then I went back and killed more mobs (counted over 100 more) and the went back to Beaudeaux (with RDM as main job) and got the cutscene. From what I understand now, you need to kill 100 enemies with the sword, actualy deal the killing blow. So my suggestion is go kill some more, switch back to RDM and return to Beaudeaux.

So people say you have to kill all 100 in 1 session, without zoning or logging out. I think this is false, but can not confirm it, the second time I killed 100+ monsters it was in the same zone with not break.

And the third time I killed 100 monsters, for the upgrade quest I did it in one session too, no zoning. If you going to do the sword upgrade quest and need help, let me know I did find it a little frustrating and most DRK I spoke to did not do the quest, which is a pitty, it has a very nice title, Black Death.

You can freely zone, log out, die, whatever while making the 100 kills with Chaosbringer. A number of us tested this in beta (sometimes involuntarily! ) and it continues to be true in retail.

I'm not sure whether the game counts weapon skill kills as being from the sword, however - I have heard that they don't, but cannot confirm that.

I can confirm that Weapon Skills do not count as a killing blow. Only killing the mobs by the slow, painful, 666 delay, crappy damage way will net you a tick toward the 100. One quick way to do this if you don't have a war already leveled is to sub /blm (even if your blm is only level 1) and cast stone once, then hit it once for the final blow. That shoudl take at least 30% off of the time it takes for you to complete this if you are starting from lv.1 war.

So, when I reach level 30, even as a monk who cannot qeild any kind of sword, I can go and change my job to a level 1 warrior and finish off this quest?

you could, but believe me... with the crap damage and long delay, you don't want to be a lvl 1 war for this. at lvl 30war/thf, using berserk and sneak attack to make it go faster it still took 30-45 min. words cannot express the frustration at seeing that "You cannot perform that action now." message popup two or three times in between kills.

Well, I'm a monk, not a warrior so I have no choice.

Is there a specific place you have to go to kill certain monsters or does it matter at all wich monsters you kill?

I defeated 100 enemies starting as a level 1 WAR. It is not any harder, it just takes longer. Beating up worms right outside Bastok in South Gustaberg is easy at any level.

By the time you kill 100 you will be around level 5 WAR, which is useful in case you are ever in a PT that needs a provoker - you can just make it your sub.

no, it's fine to kill any mobs in any areas. but it's easier to kill those in Gustaberg, coz it's where the quest is offered, and u got easiest mobs around.

A guy I knew suggested another way to keep track of kills using a bow and 99 arrows. Use 1 arrow per battle to keep your count.
