What are the pros and cons of playing a Dark Knight?

My original intention was to create a small FAQ for the newcomers to sort out some of the more general questions they might have, but I gave that up after getting a lof of hate posts, but I hope what information that is posted here can be of help to people in the end.
Anyways, feel free to post what you think are the pros and cons of playing this job

im not quite sure what some of them are but iknow one is hardly any DEF, you shoud tell all your readers that if they want to be a serious tank they need to be a pally. (sorry i couldent help much)

Drks have low Def, and High attack. The ability to drain back both HP and MP. High Delay weapons meaning they dont attack very often, however the dmg they give could be worth waiting for.

Drk's are hated for missing, because of the long delay times, missing and waiting for the next round is very bad.

Scythes look great.... uhh they look good in AF.. o.o;;

we get Drain and Aspir very ealry, and most dark magic spells are DRK only. The only one that we don't get earlier is the Bio series

looks sexy
decent black magic
ideal for boss hunting
cons : not that great until lv 60
large delay + misses = disliked drk
poor def
causes alot of hate (unless your a thf sub postlv60)

They also get those cool stat absorbing spells later on ^^ and I hear that theyre also wanted a lot in BCNM battles :D Forgot where.. but yeah..

that really isn't true, DRK are always good, but they get their best weapon skill AT 60,

true, as i said elsewhere, it all depends on how the person plays but then again, they arent really excepted into parties due to the fact that they are supassed by drg and sam until they hit lv60 which is whne they get their first multihitting ws

we still do more damage, it's just that they could renki with THFs, now that THF is not a god anymore we'll be more wanted

I dabble around with drk.. and i PT with alot. this is why most people like and dislike DRK.

Cons
- having the greatest attack in the world means nothing if you can't use it. most drk have to hold back everything, because if they don't, they'll get hate. Hate they can't handle. Hate they can't reduce. And given thier low DEF, it's a whm mana sponge. No more yokodama in the future means less action for drk actually because as i've said no way to control hate.

- You won't be in the renkei as time progresses. Thats where the PT's real damage is going to come from.

- slow weapons, low accuracy / dex sucks

Those are the con's i've seen my PT's i've been in. however, a good drk knows these very well, and so.. i add the pro's. I PT with an Elvaan drk often and he's REALLY good, here's why...

Pros:
- smart drk do find ways to moderate thier hate without becoming a liablility to the group. A smart drk can pump out as much damage as he/she can and not get hate.

- Not in the renkei, but last resort + berserk + soul eatter + WS = dead monster if you time it right anyways. You can't get hate from a dead beast ^^

- scythe and thier armor look pretty cool, so do drk WS's. Shadow of Death was awsome to see, can't wait to see the 200 skill WS!

- (all classes) If you build a reputation for being a good drk, pt's will come quick and easy. in the 40's (Which is all i know) the popular Drk's get PT's very quick because they are very valuable. The sucky ones suffer. DRK is a skilled position, learn the skill and you'll pwn.

A good drk does quite a bit more damage than me. I'm definately going to do drk very soon. it's kind of funny how it all works out. Good drk can do quite a bit more damage than me, while sucky ones dies, scared drk do the damage of a melee'ing whitemage. You've got to constantly think and be aware of the battle field to be good.

u say drks get pts often during 40 range, i havent had an invite in 2 weeks it seems still sittin at 43....damn it newbies hurry it up.

I said that because i meant some drk on my server. They have a reputation for being very good so they never stay seeking for long.

That could possibly be the worste thing you can do with a DRK.. if your guna use darkness use it alone so you get hate but not enough to rip it off a PLD or a WAR use berserk after maybe in the next battle, berserk does stack with last resort decentally but last resort gets to much hate and in the long run its not worth it. After that battle you darkness should be almost ready to use again, that way you dont just waste it all on one WS and cancel it as fast as you can.

DRKs dont miss thats much as people think.. i was just in a PT with a SAM and i hit just as much a he did and sadly almost double his points.. when i use darkness i blow away any competition of melee around me easily i can do 160+ a swing but i loose atleast 70+hp i think.
