98% TP back? Really? ‚¤‚ç‚â‚Ü‚µ‚¢‚— Is that with "double attack" triggering during the WS? As a DRG/XXX, each hit with a lance gives back 12 TP. As a DRG/SAM each hit gives me 14 due to the samurai's "storeTP" passive.

If I do pentathrust, I would get back 60TP as a DRG/XXX, possibly more as a DRG/WAR if "double attack" triggers, or 70TP as a DRG/SAM.

I was under the impression that the spears available to non-dragoons don't have as long a delay as the dragoon-only lances and therefore don't get as much TP per hit. Does "store TP" have a greater effect if your main is SAM?

All I know is that many sams can do many pentathrusts in a row on tote~tsuyo monsters. Won't work on totetote, however, because landing all 5 hits on a totetote with a B-weapon doesn't happen very often.

i'd like to make a comment

um. about the Drk/Rdm. it is a good combo. SEPCIALY at 42 (you get regen...niceeee) if they uped the lvl cap to around 85 you would be god (refreash). you can also get PHALANX ^^. but also my friend is a lvl 42 Drk and he was like "hey lvl up rdm for fun" or something. he subed it. said it was awesome. Drk is a HYBIRD job. you are 2/3 fighter 1/3 mage. RDM is a HYBRID class. you are HALF fighter HALF mage. (dur) now if you put warrior as sub you become useless almost as a caster. woop di do. you hit for more and you get taunt (useless for a drk) thf is good because of backstab.. but also only till your vl 30. Rdm is just a nice job. because you get some more str. and alot more magic. now if anyone has to tell me i'm wrong. i want it to be a person who is ACTUALLY PLAYING THE GAME. not someone that thinks they know what they are talking about because of reviews sorry taht just gets to me...

          Fez

p.s. i'm going to be a Drk/Rdm all the way. and i really don't think my PT will hate me. right now im' a Rdm/War ^^ and i love it. so take that all you "it has to be this way" job peoples! hahah

Well said Ph3x....I think this topic is fairly old but i was scrolling around and noticed all this.

Great topic, lots of info, and most of all, lots of OPINIONS. People, just because some of you don't like being almost half mage when ur a DRK, doesn't mean that subbing RDM sucks.

In fact, I totally agree with Ph3x, and am doing the exact same thing as him when NA releases in 2 months and 3 days.

I'm being a RDM/WAR, until my RDM hits 30, and then im DRK/RDM....if thats allowed....I forget how that works.

But whatever....my main point is, DRK/RDM/WAR is a great combo....err.....DRK/RDM rather, is....WAR is just a backup for some dmg if your party has like 2-3 mages already.

            Amen.

Every "balanced party" has exactly 3 frontliners and 3 mages. Before level 60, sometimes due to the lack of mages, people would have 4 frontliners and 2 mages. It's times like these when you would sub RDM or WHM. However, since after 60, unbalanced parties are usually so bad that they're not even worth the time, you'll barely ever see a case where you'll need to sub mage anymore. In the end, RDM or WHM sub is only useful when doing stuff solo (questing involving easy NM fights, coffer hunting, etc) and on key/skill up parties when you don't get balanced parties.

As for the sam store TP, I don't know, I only go by what I'm told, but I think the AF has something to do with it as well.

                Hmm...interesting point.

Once again, I still haven't fully decided what sub I want to level mostly...I think it's going to be either RDM, which doesn't sound like a great idea anymore. Or WAR...I think It'll just be mostly WAR, because well, thats just what makes sense right.

So if im a melee person, in a balanced group, which as a DRK i most likely will be, then i sub WAR. If the group only has 4 frontliners and 2 mages, then Ill see if I feel like subing RDM....=).

Thanks again...sounds like my character is mainly going to be a DRK/(RDM or WAR) now....heh heh.

you have a very easy time , just raise both its that simple.
You can do any combo that uses two handed weapon sub ninja, sub sam,sub war, or if you are doing just damage and are not trying to get the aggro sub a mage type. just have fun , BUT also be versatile enough to be available as many types of subs for your class.

This is not as hard as people make it out to be.
Subbing is actually a simple process, just a situational process.

One thing is wrong, subbing dragoon doesn't only provide you with an ACC passive boost but an ATK passive boost as well. WAR and DRG both have 1 ATK passive between the levels of 1 and 30 (the most common subjob levels), making them equal in this respect. SAM, THF, MNK all have zero.

What is an ATK passive? It, like other passives, invisibily boosts your raw ATK value (meaning switching from sub WAR to sub THF will not show this change: missing ATK power; but it is indeed missing). The value of the boost is unknown but the difference is apparent in fighting.

Bump*. Everyone is either asking about subs for DRK, or complaining about people asking them. And no one seems to look this far down on the forum, so I figure this should be made a sticky...or I'm just goign to bump it whenever it gets past the 20th topic down. Amen Awntawn, great post.

DRK is quite crappy from level 1~59 because you have ZERO good WS's until 60. Before that, monks get rangeki, drg gets pentathrust (hell, even double thrust their first WS rapes drk until 60), war gets rampage, etc. everyone has a decent weapon skill that does high damage figures except DRK, we get ours at level 60, but it's damage passes all of the listed above by far. The only weapon skills more powerful as far as up to where I am are RNG's side-winder/slugshot, and THF's yokodama dancing edge (and drk actually deals more damage than THF when using darkness), maybe monk's 225 WS, but I don't have any information on that one, so I won't judge that. Those people who posted there just levelled DRK up with crappy equipment to around 50 or so, and then using the money they farmed as a level 50+, levelled up their next job with more up to par equipment.

The (unforunate) fact is, the cap was stable at level 60 for a long time, so people simply hit level 60, start a new job, and assume they've "seen it all." People are only credible for as much as they've seen. There's quite a ways to go after level 60 now, most people still have a hard time realizing that by stopping at 60, there are so many things that they don't know already.

If there's anything else you need to know about this, feel free to send me a PM. Go ahead and PM the other people for an explanation of their statements as well. You can compare at decide who's is more valid. As for now, let's try to keep this thread on topic

                            Awntawn,
Thanks for your reply. I'm currently playing the beta version now and I have been lvl up the DRK a lot. This is the only adv job I really like and I'll stick with it for the retail version in US. So from all the suggestion I heard before 60 i will stay as DRK/WAR and after that I should change to DRK/THF.

The DRK/PLD issue has been covered on the first post. First of all, DRK should avoid getting hit at all cost, so that they shouldn't worry about defense. Second of all, the defense boost is only a small amount; it's all that a subjob can provide. Using war's active ability defender will boost your defense more than sub PLD ever will. Also, sentinel, pld's active defense up ability, creates hate, which is something you DON'T want, and it only lasts for a few seconds.

As for not getting damage lowered, i consider not gaining a loss. With war sub, berserk is an extremely high boost to defense. THF sub, while there is no damage boost, the hate transfer is a completely different issue altogether. SAM lets you shell out WS's at a faster pace (though not THAT much faster) that lets you break even. DRK/PLD on the other hand, has nothing to make up for the "lack of gain."

As for the white magic, PLD's white magic is crippled as it is. It gets spells much later than whm and rdm, and subbing it is cutting that already crippled level in half again, rendering it useless.
